@HappyDiscoDeath Of course installing Ubuntu on these would prevent 99.5% of all battery fires. Lab tests have proven Mac OS X only prevents 92.6% of all battery fires. Can you afford to risk everything??

A Class C and D fire! What do you do if this happens inside an airplane?? Yikes!
On a US Navy Aircraft Carrier, usually when a Class D fire from a burning aircraft takes place….they simply push the plane overboard. A class D fire is that hot and that dangerous.

@HappyDiscoDeath I wasn’t saying windows based computers are immune. What i meant was the operating system has nothing to do with the battery failure/catastrophe. I believe my comment was intended for the people saying that it combusted purely because it was windows, which is false.

@mynameisaric so windows-based laptops are totally immune to battery failure? maybe in your own world they are, but out here in the real world, there’s been a crapload of stuff getting recalled. that includes a bunch of Toshiba laptops. sorry to burst your ego bubble, dude.

@mynameisaric Actually, there was a run of bad Lion cells a couple of years back that could and would spontaneously do this under some circumstances, particularly in certain models.

@scrambler008. No these are bigger. I prefer these to AA but you can get a AA size battery that are 3.7 volts each instead of 1.5, you may be able to modify your gadgets to run on these but that might be risky. You do get little flashlights that can run off the AA size Lithium or regular AA, they have a voltage regulating chip. These are also available on the website if you follow my link at the top of the page or under my picture or video.

Yaeh but you can’t discharge lipos (li-ion) below 3V or they will die.

Hey thanks for the info. I have a lot of batteries from laptops and hope to put them all together to make a bigger battery pack. Its great to see others with the same sort of mind in reusing old things. I looked at deal exteme, there are a lot of chargers there! Any tips on which to choose? Have a good Christmas.
@pomedan, There are many chargers that charge two batteries at a time, click on the link under my picture in the descripton area and it will take you to dealextream. Chargers only cost around $7 with free shipping, it may take a little while to get it but I think it’s well worth it.
