New Laptop – Gateway VS Acer
So…my old Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop has finally decided that its getting to old to do what I want it to do. I need something with more power to handle video editing. I am not looking to spend stupid amounts of cash on a new machine as my girlfriend already decided that we are redoing the living room. So my budget is about 00. I found 2 laptops that should do the jobs. Help me choose guys. @xXiTzKlutchXx Well I really like this timeline. Its got 3 years warranty on it so in 3 years once its no longer any good and I want something new the warranty will be up and I will probably just donate this to Garret to smash in one of his youtube videos LOL
acers are terrible Ive been working on pc’s for a long time they use motherboards from china so if you need a motherboard replacement there gonna send you a whole different motherboard that don’t match the one you already have
acer of course!!!!!!acer is the best laptop company
@thebloodzone2 yeah but still..Acer doesn’t troubleshoot gateways. If you have to call tech support for a gateway you are calling some other company. Jaytheredneck1 tried calling them about a wifi problem and he said it was horrible service.
gateways not a company acer owns gateway duh:p
@bryan12887 cheapest deal I got from dell was 1343 for an i5 430, 4GB DDR 3, in a 16 inch package. I wanted a smaller laptop but the inspiron 14R and 14 were too under powered for what I wanted. I wanted atleast an i5 with a dedicated graphics card for mobile video editing. The software I use utilizes a dedicated graphics card as an accelerator to help out when editing and rendering.
@bryan12887 really? what are your requirements for ur purpose?
@bryan12887 really? what are your requirements for ur purpose?
@bryan12887 I was going to go with a dell as I have so many but I couldn’t find anything that would meet my requirements.
go with dell.. theyre support is the shit… i had issues with my system .. they send me a new system core i7 840qm system is fully loaded over $2100 i paid 830 for my original system
@lakers102405 worst part is. I can’t order from the American dell and just pay the exchange rate. I have to order from the Canadian site and get hosed on the markup. So lame.
@delmontcrusier Problem with AMD laptop processors is that they are so behind right now in technology. The best CPU AMD has to offer is the AMD Phenom 2 quad core and the i5 520 will beat it at every test.
@joshua111602 Yeah I am going to stay away from gateway and acer. After doing more research I realized that Gateway lacks true customer support and Acer’s are a gamble. You might get a good machine or you might get a headache causing lemon.
buy a hp or sony laptop
get the acer
Hey Adam, I have a ASUS K52F Series and love it. Has the i3 and Win7 and all the other good stuff and I love it. Does really good with video too. Its a pretty good option. Just lettin ya know.
i would go with the gateway
ha there both acer lol unless hp owns acer both hp and compaq are one company.I have not heard so many good things on the acer’s latly so be cautious with them.I like amd processers they were said to be the better for gamming. The next computer preferably a laptop will have at least a duel core the bogdown drives me nuts when the processer just doesn’t seem to handle it.
HEY SKAVEEN I HAVE A GATEWAY W350I AND I HAVE HAD IT FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT SOO I WOULD SAY GATEWAY ALL THE WAY I HAD A TOSHIBA DELL AND COMPAQ AND THEY SUCK CAMEL DICK SO YEA BUDDY TTYL
Just got this for my sister for $689 shipped from Dell. Canadian prices sure are expensive compared to the U.S.

gateways suck donkeycock and u aint getting no 6 or 8 hours out of any laptop on the market especially when ur cpu and video card are having to do some work. maybe 2 to 3 hours.
the acer sounds like the better deal idk but maybe u can get a pcmcia cd drive dont know if they even make those but must drivers and software can be downloaded 4 free and i never use my cd rom drive unless i’m reinstalling my os
without a shred of doubt, get the gt 330, it has about 500mil transistors compared to 300mil in the hd5470, and mostly, the transistor count is a single hand identifier.
without a shred of doubt, get the gt 330m
@SAJANOVA if your laptop still does everything you need it to…then you don’t have to replace it until it brakes to the point where repair is the same cost as replacing it.
@aarondnls24 yeah I am kinda leaning away from both of these computers now.
