Also things like the full screen video playback, the playback time may be extended depending on what codecs are used to encode the video and the audio. For example an H264AVC video will require more CPU resources to decode than say a normal MP4 video or other less complex formats. 6 cell batteries are also a simple fix for longer use.
Theres a few things you can try to save the battery on your netbook. I just got a Dell Inspiron Mini 10v and there is a setting in the BIOS to force lower power consumption at all times or normal mode where the speed is adjusted by applet or software, thats one way. Another is to turn down the LCD backlight brightness it uses a lot of power. SSD probably use less power than regular HDD cause of no need for drive spinning. How much hardware resources your apps use. Add more RAM to stop swapping.
how long should it last typing word doc’s and no wifi?
I Just installed windows 2000 on my aspire one and it goes like 6hr!
go to Control Panel>Power Options>and something else when you can adust it manually.

my bro’s macbook G3′s battery lasts for 5 hours with normal notebook usage. this is pretty sad =( why can’t acer give it a better battery?
on xp it has power control so if u adjust it to max battery than it will go about

if you get a six cell battery, it lasts a hell of alot longer, i can get mine to go six hours with the wifi off 5-5:30 on

wow some programs that run on windows will not work on that OS. aka linux.
You can install whatever OS you want via USB stick or external DVD-drive.
Actually I find this results really good. My current HP dv2000 laptop last almost the same. Of course it’s a bigger machine (it’s very lightweight tho) and bigger battery.

off course you can… only it depends on what apps you want from
windows which have no opensource (linux) opponent that is
as good or even better then windows restricted software.
For linux there are 2 windows emulators. The free one and
commonly used one is called ‘ wine ‘ and the commercial one
yep commercial in open source world grrrr ‘ CrossOver ‘.
Install your apps inside one of these emulators.
I have one question about Linux!
Because i dont know anything about Linux, can i put software for Windows into Linux ?
