Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 14: Gaming, Battery, Build Quality Part 2

@EchelonLeader Oh ok thanks for the info.
@speedvaxer It actually won’t do that if you’re stressing it out. The reason being that Intel’s core i3 and i5 processors consume a maximum of 35 watts, including the graphics card. The Turion 2 on the other hand uses 25 watts EXCLUDING the dedicated graphics card, for a total of OVER 35 watts.
@ryandwhit I heard they improved the HP Envy series, especially the trackpad which i heard was awful initially. And the monitor can definitely handle 1080i video. Support HDMI and vga at the same time? As in plug in multiple external displays?
And yes, i will admit the build quality isn’t as good as other thinkpads, but its still good.
@suiiside I’m not entirely sure if this can burn discs sorry.
great 3 videos! i’m still on the wall whether i should get a HP Envy or Thinkpad Edge 14. i just need to know how the monitor is with Photoshop CS4 and 1080i video. plus can you show me if there is any keyboard flex? and can you support HDMI, VGA, and Edge display all at the same time? I read reviews that the build quality isn’t has good as classic or current thinkpads (x,t,w-series). thanks for your reviews and help.
does your optical drive burn DL Discs? I need to “backup” my xbox games.
@suiiside Did lenovo fix the battery life- is that your question?
I’ll be honest the battery life isn’t great. You could definitely get better battery life from something like a macbook pro. But really the battery life isn’t bad. As long as you’re not gaming or video editting, it will last. I’m always at a place here on campus that has outlets anyways, so it’s not a big deal. I never hesitate to simply bring my computer without the charger to class because I know it can last.
Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering cause all the reviews I read said that it had poor battery life. but for how much time you said doesn’t seem very poor to me. Did they fix it or put new batteries in?
@suiiside To give you an idea, my i5 on the brightest screen settings and 100% performance lasts 2.5 hours. On the dimmest screen settings and battery-saving performance, it lasts almost 5 hours.
Your AMD Dual Core Processor will last longer than my i5, so expect numbers a little more bigger than mine.
I just ordered mine. Amd turion 2 processor, 4 gb ram, 500 gb hardrive 7200rpm, 6 cell battery 2.2ah.
Does anyone know how long my battery life might last?
@NeVeRMoRe66 Hope you enjoy it!
@WAM2x2 Anytime
@Diesegeld No problem at all
Your series of videos for the thinkpad have been really helpful in my search for a new laptop, thanks!
@speedvaxer Thanks for the replies youve been helpful!
@WAM2x2 Upgrading RAM isn’t a huge expense. Also I think 2 GB is sufficient, but if you want to upgrade to 4 thats easy.
@speedvaxer I got 2 GB didnt know how much I would really need but didnt seem to be all that expensive if i needed to upgrade eventually.
@WAM2x2 I really can’t think of things to upgrade to the thinkpad edge after you buy it besides the RAM. How much RAM did you get? The max RAM this MoBo can handle is 4 GB.
I just bought my lenovo thinkpad edge 14 with a athlon dual core processor which I know is not the best but I was wondering if you knew about upgrades I thought it was cool that the edge was so upgradeable but im not quite sure how to or what to upgrade on it any links or help in that department would be great. I got the athlon because of price difference and that I figured amd would come out with one to one up intels new processors sometime next year possibly.
Thanks for the video!
I just picked up mine today (although it doesn’t have nearly the same specs yours does). These next two weeks are going to kill me, I can’t wait!
@QuarterMachine Companies always exaggerate their battery life numbers. You can probably get 4.5 hours if you turn the brightness down and turn off wifi, but you would never do that haha.
Thanks for the these videos of your new ThinkPad Edge. You’ve practically convinced me to get one. The only thing I’m on the fence about is the battery life. 3 – 4 hours seems so short to me. On Lenovo’s website it says a user should get about 4.5 hours out of it, so I’m thinking perhaps you use yours more than the average person or that maybe Lenovo is a bit misleading in regards to the ThinkPad’s battery life? This would be a major upgrade from my 17 inch Dell Inspiron E1705 :-p
@makaveli559m And the reason why this cannot support more than 4 GB of RAM is because the motherboard lenovo chose for the edge series can’t. I’m sure if I wanted a lenovo that had better specs I could get one, I’d just pay a lot more.
@makaveli559m I could make the same argument- i could say a two year old pc is better than a newer pc because it has a intel quad q6600 instead of an intel pentium that comes in a new one.
I don’t mean to sound rude, it just doesn;t make sense. Yea sometimes older hardware is better, but there’s a lot of new hardware that;s better than the old hardware.
wow really I have 6GB on my Thinkpad R61, an its an intel PM965 based. Shows you sometimes older hardware is way better than newer.
