I’m at the stage where I’ve taken out about 20 screws from the bottom- all the keyboard icon ones, but the top keyboard bit still won’t pop out so I’m thinking there are more, like the hard drive / optical drive / wireless that need to go. I got a set from Sears for about $30. You need some small flat blade screwdrivers to pry up on those connectors.

This computer has 0 hex screws in it. They’re all phillips screws in this laptop. And yes it is completely fine to use a magnetic screwdriver on a laptop. As long as the machine is off and not running, you’re fine.
