My first solar powered laptop.
This is my first attempt at a solar powered laptop. I am using the R-21 solar panel from PowerFilm, two PS-612 lead acid batteries by Power Sonic and one laptop car charger. www.powerfilmsolar.com www.microbattery.com This was just tossed together for something to play with. I will try to post more vids when I have time and the sunshine to make them. Thus far, I would highly recommend the R-28 Panel or larger as it has more amps and would work better in less than ideal conditions, as I have found the R-21 to be just enough in bright sunlight.

Nice panel, I like those flexible panels for trips. One suggestion is to buy a jump starter / power pack which has a larger storage battery and dc outputs. I picked up a jump starter for $20 with a 10 ah battery(local store). You can get them off of ebay or amazon for a little bit more. My system is less portable, but it’s just to use in a power emergency. Great vid!
Sorry to say my first panel apparently was defective and only putting out about 48% of it’s rated power, compared to the 2nd panel that was giving me 84% or it’s rated power at the same time. I’m currently waiting to hear back if I can get a replacement before I can make any more progress.
Your project is pretty close to what I
wanted to accomplish. Keep up!!
Okay I finally caved in and got a second solar panel. Now I just need some good whether to test it…haha
i am trying to make my own solar panel and power my comp and other stuff with it
Just got a SunSport 6 solar charge controller the other day so I don’t over charge my batteries. But the charge controller doesn’t let enough juice through to run the laptop. I ran the setup with the panel directly connected like I did in the film, and it only ran for about 50min. So I can either buy a 2nd panel for about $400, or sell this one and get a bigger panel for $550. I can afford neither at the moment due to my staving student budget.
Let me know how it goes, I am always interested in seeing what other people come up with.
Good video. I plan on doing to same thing once I get a solar controller and a battery.
Very much appreciate your comments, welcome to come!
