UNBOXING: Samsung Series 9 Laptop [Part 3]
ttp://www.laptopthoughts.com This is part one of a three part unboxing and first impressions video of the Samsung Series 9 laptop (900X3A-A02CA). This is a thin and light laptop that goes head to head with the Macbook Air, though it costs a pretty penny doing so. Where to buy: is.gd (this is a lesser configuration) It features an Intel Core i5 2537M CPU at 1.4 Ghz (3 MB cache), 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, a 256 GB SSD, and an Intel GMA HD GPU. The 13.3 inch screen is matte and 1366 x 768 in resolution. There are two 3 watt speakers and SRS 3D sound. The webcam is 1.3 megapixels, and there’s a single microphone under the screen. In addition to 802.11a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0, there’s a dongle that, when attached to the side, adds Gigabit Ethernet. Video output is solely mini HDMI (no adaptor is included in the box), and in addition to microphone/headphone jack, there one USB 3.0 port and one USB 2.0 port (one is an always-on charging port). Samsung made the interesting – and wrong in my opinion – decision to go with a microSD card slot rather than a full-sized SD card slot. The laptop has an internal, non-removable 6 cell (40 wHR) battery. The laptop is 2.88 pounds (1.31 kg) and measures 12.9″ wide, 8.9″ deep, and between 0.62″ and 0.64″ thick from front to back. Please give the video a thumbs up, subscribe to our channel, and post a channel.

Im in the UK on my Acer Aspire 5810 , I got it back 2 days ago and im used to using my computer keyboard and now im screwed , :L – They’ve shrunk the Shift key on it? and I dont live in Canada nor do I have a French English Keyboard :’(:’(:’(
looks? really cheap.
if ur thinking about buying a series 9.wait…theirs an asus model called asus ux21 coming out soon later this year look it up u? wont be dissapointed
This isn’t the i7 model unfortunately; it’s the i5 model that Engadget tested. The difference is this model has 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD; I think Engadget tested the 4? GB / 128 GB version.

Hi Jason. Nice overview of the laptop. Waiting for the thorough review.
Did you got 7411 PCMarks with this i7 model? Engadget gave it 7582? for the 1.4GHz Core i5-2537M model.
Thanks!?
hohoho..just relax Mr. Jason, I don’t have any intention to put any pressure on you. I just love your review and I think? you will have great review on those laptops!
. Thanks for replying again
I’ll see what I can do? about those new laptops, but I can’t promise anything…
- Jason
Thanks for the reply!
.Cool! I’ll be waiting for the review. I hope you will also review notebooks with the newest AMD Fusion processor, Llano A Series(A4, A6, and A8) in the future. I heard that they’re even more amazing than Zacate (E-350)?
1080p playback is like butter – totally smooth. 1080p Flash playback on YouTube is perfect. 4K Flash playback in? IE9 is awful, but in Chrome it works much better (though still not perfect). 4K is an edge case though, it’s still being figured out in terms of optimization for hardware. Battery life so far is 5 hours at 50% screen brightness – which is still really bright – constantly surfing the Web loading a new page every 60 seconds. Lots more to come in the review video!
- Jason
Does the core i5 handle HD video? playback well? Also, what’s the battery life like so far? Thanks for the reply!
That’s a very fair question – I didn’t forget about, but it did drop off my mental list a bit…I’ll see if I can do it later today in fact. Watch for it next week.? Spoiler: it’s awesome, amazing bang for the buck, but the fan (though quiet) never turns off.
- Jason
Hi Jason! I always love your review. Why don’t you finish your review? on HP Pavilion DM1Z? I’ve been waiting for it since you released your unboxing video
. Will you post it in the future because I really want to know your opinion about the new AMD Fusion. Thanks!
Nope. The Macbook Air I reviewed got 5821 PCMarks under PCMark Vantage. This Series 9 clocks in at 7411 PCMarks. That’s 27% overall better performance. You can dislike the design, but performance-wise, this thing kicks the Air out the door. That will change of course once the new Air comes out with a Sandy Bridge processor, but I review things based on the here and? now, not unknown future products.
- Jason
So, desktop replacements? I tend not to be very excited about those? to be honest – I’m of the personal belief that if you need a burly computer, you buy/build a desktop computer. That’s just my own bias though; I understand why a lot of people need/want those types of systems. I basically review what I have access to, which at the moment is Samsung and sometimes HP/Dell computers. Every other laptop maker I’ve contacted has ignored me.

WHAT? 2400?!? Regardless, I meant something less portable and with a bit more umph under the hood. Something with a dedicated graphics? card, maybe an i7. Something along those lines
@ThoughtsMedia and the? air looks better and has more of a natural feel. Call me nit picky but these things are important. Sorry about the separate comments I kept hitting post.
@ThoughtsMedia? and the weird micro sd card slot
@ThoughtsMedia the power adapter, the keyboard,? part of it’s plastic, it gets around the same performance as the air even though it has better specs and is more expensive.
@mota411 sandy bridge wasn’t? out yet.
What sort of “higher end machines” are you referring to? This? is a $2400 laptop…
- Jason
Hey Jason, could we expect? any reviews of higher end machines in the foreseeable future?
wow i would have thought that you already knew about it, yea they aren’t going to ship for a while because it will have the ULV sandy bridge which intel announced at computex, but said it wasn’t going to be released untill later this year, so? this should be one of the first machines with that processor.
