I didn’t even know this was possible. I had 2- six year old 18 volt black and decker batteries that would give me 3 minutes before the line trimmer would lose lot of its power. I did this jumpstart twice with one battery and once with? the other but with a diehard automatic battery charger. Now, they are giving me the usual 24 minutes trimming on a full charge for each battery. Rejuvenate six year old batteries to almost brand new?! Awesome! I almost was going to buy a new trimmer.

Great video. I had 4 Ryobi batteries that would NOT charge. Two of them were probably 8? or 9 years old and were in my junk battery box. ALL 4 of them now work thanks to your procedure. Thanks. I really appreciate it and it saved me a bunch of money.

Can I? use my two Lion 18v batteries as the power source. It seems you are saying you can not “DO” this “TO” and Lion. Was wondering if the LION could be the source. Thanx… Pete

My disclaimer in the description is to tell people not to try to revive a bad LiOn battery. As? to using LiOn as the power soource, I don’t know if it might damage the LiOn batteries. LiOn batteries are so expensive that I don’t want to be responsible to any damage that may incur when using LiOn as power source.

1)? You *can* do this with NiMH. 2) You don’t need twice the voltage to jump start dead batteries.

The reason the charger wouldn’t charge those dead NiCad is because a lot of electronic chargers won’t output any current if they don’t receive any current. That is to say, if a 100% dead battery doesn’t send a signal (a current) to the charger, the charger won’t send current back. You could probably jump start dead batteries with a 6v lantern battery and you would have gotten the same effect.

A higher voltage/higher amperage jolt on batteries can? be good to get rid of crystal build up that blocks the current. The crystal build up acts as an added resistance or a choke on the current flow. This isn’t true of just nicad batteries, though.

On small rechargeable batteries for something like a phone or a kid’s rc car, you could simply do a quick high amp jolt at normal charge voltage. If your phone battery pack is x2 (1.2v x2) nimh or nicad batteries (600 to 900mah) then? a quick 2 or 3 amp jolt of 2.4 to 3 volts will be enough to gain back a lot of your old battery’s life back. It’s not necessarily a requirement to double the voltage.
