How to install a backlit keyboard on Dell XPS 17 L702X laptop

I do not work for Dell. I only ordered an XPS 17 L702X and neglected to add the backlit keyboard during the customization process. This video is to show other owners of XPS 17 L702X models how to install a backlit keyboard on their own laptops if they wish and that it isn’t nearly as difficult as it would seem. If you are curious about changing out the keyboard of other laptop models and whether this can be done just simply google the model of your laptop followed by “service manual” and more than likely you should get a link to Dell’s site or some other site that offer this info.

Successfully installed my new backlit keyboard with the help of this video. Many thanks

You’ll have to call Dell to find out. I don’t work for them. I just know? the XPS 17 had this option.
In the U.S. you can just call Dell and ask for their parts department.? Out of the U.S. I’ve seen them on ebay and other online sites that deal in Dell parts.
Don’t know if this is possible for all laptops. Dell advertised the backlit keyboard option on their site, I just didn’t know it was an optional part and not standard feature when I ordered it. The video is for XPS 17? L702X model users and how to install the back-lit keyboard. You’ll have to ask asus for info on their laptops.
i have a question for you. is it possible to do this on all laptops? i have a New ASUS N56VM that was released this july. for some unknown reason, ASUS decided to have 5 models in this range and not all come with a backlit keyboard despite the cheapest model costing £900. unfortunately, mine doesn’t have a backlit keyboard. how did you know – you could? upgrade your dell?
where? can i buy it?
i mean can i get one? for myDell insprion14z?
sweet cam? one for my dell 14z?
Hello, Just short question- If I change the? keyboard to back-lit keyboard myself, would it be avoid the warranty? Thanks…
I turned the backlit off a while back, and I? can’t seem to be able to turn it on again.
help ?
You can turn off the backlit feature completely by toggling through the light level settings with F6 key (dim it all the way down to no light showing). I do recall seeing a controlling application running on the laptop that may be able to also control the backlit function as? well, and maybe that is affected by power save settings too? Sorry for not being sure, but I actually do not use the laptop.
This may seem counter-intuitive, but I want to install the backlit keyboard on? my recently ordered laptop (they’ve discontinued the keyboard in the UK) but I may want to turn it off to save battery and similar. Does the F6 key allow you to turn the backlight off altogether?
my laptop’s one of the keys came loose the CAPS LOCK key. I took it out and now having trouble putting it back on. The original issue was? the top of the key (the plastic wiggles a lot does not stick in) so I decided take out and see what is going on.
I just bought a backlit keyboard from Lapodo on eBay. This video should come in handy.
It’s a bit pricey at £50 delivered but it was the only? one I could find. There may not be any in stock for a few days though.
Thank you so much for this? tutorial, you are amazing. I just applied the same steps for my XPS 15 L502X and everything was fine.
You are the master.
I thought so too at first, but it depends on the package of L702X you get with it, like the “Studio” version I think came with it. I? custom ordered my wife’s, building from bare essentials, adding options here and there, and didn’t realize the backlit keyboard wasn’t a standard feature until after we got the laptop delivered.
This is the best video ever!!? It was an easy switch following these instructions and pictures. Thabk you so much!
I thought the XPS 17 L702X came with a backlit? keyboard?
Why are there so many people like you that feel the need to stand? up for everyone.
Directly from Hell. I had to call them and give them the serial number of the laptop so they can help me get the correct? part.?
Best source is the service manual. Google “XPS L502x service manual” and it should be the first link in the results page. That is the direct link to Dell’s website for the L502x series service manual. Lots of pictures and instructions in there so you? will be able to tell quickly if it is a similar process to the video.
do you or does anyone else know if this is similar for the XPS? 156 L502x?
This video looks professional, im? looking for a way how could i get to the cooler? i wanna clean the fan, i think it has gathered a lot of dust because it gets really hot really fast. it didnt used to get so hot so fast before.
I like mind just 6 bills? works good
If its under warranty I would call Dell first about the issue. If no longer under warranty, then google “L702X service manual” and you will get a direct link to the Dell website that contains a complete guide on taking the laptop apart. There is even a direct link to the subwoofer and speaker sections on that page. Just set aside plenty of time to do this,? read instructions carefully and don’t rush the steps in the instructions.
