I watched the “wrong” video over at ifixit online that’s says to heat the top of the cable and pry under it – wrong move – the pad came off. Tony’s method desoldering a battery lead then using a braid on say the volume/power flex cable to desolder the cable prevents the pads from tearing off the board. His advice on a hot iron and getting in and out quick is a must.
