Same issue on our 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid FWD w/a bit shy of 30k miles on it.

You saw my <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/wildtexas/tags/servicesoon/">FEH / ScanGauge II pics</a> and the GreenHybrid.com thread, I think, about it. Through help online translated the ScanGauge II's "xgauge" data to the B1239 code in the TBCM (wrench lamp & Service Soon msg). If it makes you feel any better, it's an odd code that doesn't log itself in the same place as, say, a CHECK ENGINE or STOP SAFELY SOON light. It's buried and doesn't even reveal itself as having occurred on the ScanGauge without some fancy footwork. That said, service dept's have much fancier equipment than a ScanGauge and I suspect it's no extra effort to pull the code w/their equipment.

Repair was in the neighborhood of $350 parts+labor here in 78258 (San Antonio, TX), FYI. I'd let them do the repair, if/when you can spare the change. I'd heard $250 for parts+labor elsewhere in the country but don't know how much it truly varies.
