Personally I recommend Linux Mint XFCE, but it’s really up to you to decide what you want to use. However, if the hard drive you’re using is from another computer, you shouldn’t need to install anything. The one I used was from a computer whose mother board crashed, and it already had Linux installed on it, so it ran just fine without having to change anything. Does that answer your question?

You could try booting from another device, like a Live CD or Live USB (Google “pen drive linux”). If you can get that to boot, you’ll be running a temporary Linux-based OS from that device and should be able to mount your hard drive from there. If you can mount your hard drive and access the files, then your hard drive should be fine, and the problem is something else.

I wish to remove my hard drive to backup my files to othes PC. I had unscrew and do so and I just had to remove the hard drive+the metal case from the crook. I see you just give? a small push with your finger and the hard drive was detached on its connector easily (@1:35-1:38). But my hard drive feel more though to detach. I worry if I push it to hard my hard drive will be broken. How can you do that? Could you give tips? Thank you.

That’s how my HP netbook was. It had the four screws on the metal plate, and one big screw on the end of the hard drive case, holding it in place.
