I managed to solve the problem – Here it is- Apparently UEFI goes ballistic in some cases even if you disable it from the BIOS. If that happens you get stuck in a loop where the machine can see the Disk Drive But cannot boot to it. If this happens you must use a USB Thumb Drive to install Windows and it MUST be via the Windows tool. Took? a lot of digging but this worked immediately- also make sure you have fast boot disabled from the BIOS or it will skip the USB check for the Thumb drive.
Hi there, thanks for the Video, After having done this and gotten everything in- the Bios sees the new HDD, but won’t let me past the boot menu (Shows the new drive and the CD Drive) It goes into? a weird loop. I can hear it access the CD drive and the HDD light comes on, but it goes to boot selection and then sticks there looping back. Have you had any experience with this or any suggestions? Thanks!
anyway … what do you need 12GB RAM for in the first place? 8GB is enough for basically everything unless you’re some designer/engineer and run loads of intensive programs at the same time (which maybe even the i7 cpu of this laptop may not be able to handle…)… I play lots of games in full HD (900×1600), and get no lag at all (40+ fps) and I’m able to run other apps like firefox/microsoft word at the same time as the game with just the 8GB RAM and? still get no lag…
I contacted Samsung support regarding what is the max RAM, and they replied saying
”
The maxium RAM this laptop can handle is 8GB.
This is? spread over 2 slots with each card featuring 4GB of RAM. If you place a 8GB module into this slot, the system will only be able to utilise 4GB of it and would be a complete waste. ”
*sad face*
Did you use the Samsung hard drive spacer that comes with the Notebook Upgrade? kit or did you buy the Basic kit?
I just? want to Thank You for the video on your Samsung, I have the Samsung 16.5 700Z5B SO1 and it is a work horse. I do notice some heat if the laptop is on something soft. I am glad you took your Samsung apart so I will not make a mistake with mine, I bought mine in May of 2012. So changing out the HD will be much easier on me now. Thank You, Ed
I bought the Lenovo Y580 and stuck a Sandisk SSD 240 GB in it and like it so much more? than the Samsung.
The laptop? does get very warm when gaming. I recommend you use a good cooler that blows up and set it on a desk vs your lap if you want to have more kids…
those numbers are true, i used speedfan to measure? the temps after hardcore gaming and the old i5-480 core in my old laptop was supposed to last up to 100 degrees celcius till it started degrading so that laptop is still fast after 2 years of use (gave it to my brother). the highest my new chronos 7 has EVER reached was 47 with crysis 2 on ultra high settings. normally it plays other games like just cause 2/black ops on the highest detail possible reaching 43 degrees tops-47 degrees is not hot
That is pretty hot for a machine to be running at those temperatures -_- . And those numbers are not true, when you are prolonged in using the machine? it will cause the system to reach very hot temperatures… which will lead to hardware failure
btw sorry – i just realised my laptop was a chronos 7 15.6″ laptop with all same specs but with nvidia 640m instead
and my laptop is never noisy… it can only be heard when im hardcore gaming but the game sounds are higher so i? basically never hear the fans
-_- SMH this computer does? overheat! the unit is very noisy and loud when gaming! that’s why I returned it
no it doesnt?
the max temp it? reaches for me is 47 degrees Celsius when i play with ultra high graphics on crysis 2 (DX11 turned off)… my old laptop used to turn 80 degrees…
sorry, my bad
i think he said it in this review (not sure because i watched a? bit of it a long time ago), anyway the max it can be upgraded to is 12GB (you can upgrade one slot to 8GB giving 12GB), but the other slot is under the keyboard side, which is impossible to get to unless you’re ready to open up the entire laptop, in which case you can get 16GB. ANyway 8GB is more than enough ram to run 99% of applications…
IS IT?!!
it has 2 DIM? slots tho.
i just dropped my brand new? model of this (15.6″, i7 3615qm, nvidia 640m) with the charger in

first time i’ve ever dropped a laptop since my first one 6 years ago and it’s a brand new one
now when i plug the charger in, it is relatively loose, it holds decently still (not as tight), but it still holds the charger in so i think the pin inside is cracked
if i handle the charger carefully, will the hold keep getting loose or will it stay as it is for the next few years?? thx
yeah the max for this laptop is 8GB ?
Support just told me max system RAM is? 8GB. Can this be true?
Were there any warranty-seals which?? must be broken?
But the Windows itself isn’t installed on the SSD I believe…
It would be really great to? have an SSD as a main drive because it helps making programs load faster and overall performance much better and another HDD for storage!
I’m not gonna buy one now anyways they might add this in 2013′s laptops…
type this in google: Samsung Chronos 700Z5C-S01 Laptop, Intel Core i7, 2.3GHz, 8GB RAM, 1TB+8 SSD, 15.6″, Silver
it has 8gb ssd for fast boot up and 1tb hard drive (I just got it, its amazing, the only thing about that laptop that’s worse than this one, is the graphics card (only a BIT worse) and the screen is? 900p (but the pixel density on both laptops would be the same because that one is 15.6″)
Can anyone link a caddy (for replacing the optical drive? with an ssd) that is compatible with this model?
It uses a standard 7200rpm 750gb or? a 5000rpm 1TB drive with an 20GB SSD that I guess is msata.
Search on HDD? caddy, that will help you
Still can’t get. Is default? HDD hybrid or there’re hdd + msata SSD? My friend owns that laptop (only RU instead of US
) so i became curious about being able to upgrade SSD for caching.
