thank you I? change all the wires running to the starter
Sorry, but Steve isn’t able to give any specific advice. However, the right tool for the? right job is a basic guideline for handy men (or women), right?
Although Steve can’t glean enough information from comments to give any specific advice,? I would guess that virtually any car care manual would recommend against using tape on an automobile engine
Can I use pliers if I don’t have? a crimp tool? Any alternatives?
nice video I have a question? I have a 1985 cutlass oldsmobile that terminal smokes when I drive the car it’s coming off the starter I use electrical tape that’s not good is it
A smear of vaseline on the battery terminals before you tighten up? the connections will eliminate any corrosion for years to come.
Sorry, but Steve can’t diagnose without examining the vehicle–just like a doctor
Sure sounds like? an issue with the cable or the connection though
What would you suggest for a 1998 Ford? Explorer?? I am having starting problems and if I jiggle the wire or hold it in a certain position then it would start
He absolutely did. I ran the camera and stood and watched. The vehicle being worked on was mine, and had no special preparation. Steve is a bit of an expert
However, the process? seems simple enough.
Only you can tell why the process took you the time it did.
Thanks. By the way, the fix worked great and I’ve been running? fine since. Thanks again!
Did a mistake by trying to clean all the salt around the terminal? and the wire, cutting the wire offf and installing a new terminal with an extension would save time
Exactly what I did today, started around 9 pm. by the time I finished it was around 1am. yet this? guy did it in less than 15 minutes ?
Sorry, it’s a little difficult to say at this distance.?
my car has issues starting recently, when the key is turned there is no sound(engine doesn’t turn over). it eventually does after a couple of minutes. they checked the starter/spark(not sure of the correct term) but that was fine, said it may be the battery so i replaced. i got the? new one a couple of days ago and it’s happened twice again since then…could this be the issue? since it starts eventually just needs a few minutes to do so. i’ve been to 2 different car shops.
wow the guy didn’t even use anitcorrodeing grease, it is conducitive so it is ment for connectors but prevents? oxidation and lasts a long time
holy crap there is a lot of acid on that battery! take some backing soda and water and dump it on the battery for about 10 min, then rinse it off, it will hold a charge for a lot longer, the acid usually? eats away those connectors on the main battery cables
Not sure, but you can see approximately how long it might take. Ask them what they charge by the hour. Naturally they will include travel time. Do mechanics come to your house and perform services on your vehicle?? It might be cheaper to get a tow if you have AAA or some other towing service.
how much should a mechanic charge me to come to my house and? perform this service?
Yep. Brilliant. Going to try this today on my car, and? I’ll let you know how it goes!
I guess it is a common Tracker/Vitara problem, I’m? doing the same repair on my Tracker today,
no prob!? glad it worked out for you.
@youtoo6211 thank you so much for your feedback! I? was able to successfully change the terminals out this morning with your help!! Appreciate it
they do sell “crimpless” terminals. You can do everything he did in the video, but instead of crimping, you will secure the cables with a clamp and screws that come with? the new terminal. Definitely an easier task if you don’t have specialty tools like that behemoth crimper.
@JonEsposito85
What are my other options if I don’t have a crimping tool and the device to? melt the wires? Sorry if thats a dumb question but I’m only working with wire cutters lol. Any help or do I just have to buy the kit. If so, can I buy it at any auto parts store? Thanks for the video, you helped a lot. My Dad won’t think I’m his little girl anymore lol have a nice day
On my way outside to change? mine now…thanks for this great how to video!
