Durable Laptop Batteries
Cheap Solar Power pt2

Using some scraps around the homestead I built a solar panel mount. Using some old car batteries and few bits for the junk yard you can build a battery charging station that can be used independent from the power grid. In WROL this unit will be very useful to charge computers, I phone, I pad, and battery chargers.

You always do some great vids …just? thought though, that a “charge controller” might be needed to stop the panels overcharging the batteries ?
Great stuff
Solar landscape lights often use AA , great way to charge batteries and you can carry them indoors for light too ! Just change to a high milliamp battery the ones that come in them are not ever readys lol … Also on my emergency solar i used old tv wall mounts ? for the panels, work perty gud !
Hey! Thank you for this useful video. By the way, I notice lots of people keep on talking about Xobotano Home Energy (google it), but I’m not sure if it’s good.? Have you tried this alternative home energy called Xobotano Home Energy? I’ve heard many incredible things about it.
Awesome? spyderco sage
Thanks again for sharing all your? interesting/informative ideas/projects/tips etc., with us all again, & keep-em coming…..
Learn something from you with each video… I want to know more about solar power, do you know of a reliable source for learning about? solar power for dummies?
Hey man, excellent vid, just make sure you use? that multimeter before turning the inverter on, can save you a lot of money
Hi Boss Verry helpful vedio. I need some advice. I want to run my fridge/ fridger by soler panel and 1000w? inverter, but with out any kind of battery system. Is it possible? What kind of system i need to use? Tnx
you? are a natural
I’d recommend not covering the cooling fan with anything, including the connecting wires to prevent? overheating and subsequent failure in your system. Keep up the good work brother.
nice video? wranglerstar
Very cool setup. I? will persue this right away. Thanks for the idea/
do you have a voltage regulator on there so you don’t over charge your 12 volt batteries? Or were you just going to monitor them no? and then?
another advice for idiots:when you use 2 3 or more bateries in paralele ,and you need to charge them, put the positiv from charger or solar panel to the positiv of the first batteri in row and the negativ to the last baterie`s negativ in? the row.If you don`t all the power from charger will to the first batt and the rest of batteries will take only a small charge.
if you do batterie? in series or paralel ,the idiot proof advice is this:always use the same tipe of batteries.Same ampere same voltaje same producer.
Q: How much current flows through a (virtually) short circuit caused by a wrench across a weak 12 volt car battery? see 00:14, 6:02-6:34 If you’re holding yourself out as an instructor, for-God-sake, work safely. Your audience is (presumably) not as smart as you; don’t teach them bad habits. Also, NO other devices should be installed in the battery box. Charging batteries emit explosive gas. Car batteries are acceptable if they’re free and your power needs are moderate. Deep? discharge better
For series: only hook up __one__ positive-to-negative connection
Connect the remaining negative? to the load and the remaining positive to load
Even with the small panels, at that voltage you’ll have to monitor your batteries carefully to avoid ‘cooking’ the 12V batteries.
Thanks for posting. It’s a great small solar project.
with a larger solar panel you would need a charge controller. these panels look like the small 5 watt type that people use in RV’s and cars in? storage to keep the battery topped off. the solar panels used in RV storage normally plug right into the cigarette lighter port and just sit on the dash board. if they are the type i think they are it is unlikely they would damage a battery.
Great project. Tweaked my mind about how much I’ll need? to spend. Now solar looks like a right-now, easy thing to tackle. Thanks.
I saw 1 other commenter talking about charge controllers, are we the only ones thinking that you might want to? look into one?
Awesome – thanks? so much for sharing all your great info!!!!
That crimping tool is nice, but? you can do the same thing using a dull center punch or chisel to crimp the cable in the terminal.
Always draw from opposite ends of the battery bank. Possitive from one battery and negative from the other. Otherwise you create an imbalance? in the bank. You’ll also have difficulty charging both batteries if you don’t. Good job on the improvisation though.
Great video Cody. When connecting 2 different batteries in parallel it can actually cause them to drain themself if there is nothing charging them, can be fixed just by seperating them at? night.
The Harbor Freight solar kit can be purchased for around $150.00 with the coupon from their ad. For a basic kit, it is inexpensive as you stated. The charge controller is not the greatest unit and if you replace it, you can get? more power from those same solar panels.
Tornado/Hurricanes can kill power for weeks. Being able to run small appliance really make a difference. You can also RECHARGE cordless power tools to build or repair and most power tool kits (Makita) include a flashlight.
