Don’t start with a softsynth like someone here said. it won’t be much fun. What you need is a good VA with a lot? of hands-on action. A good new synth to start with is a Roland Gaia. Lots of knobs and sliders to play with and an adequate synth engine. You can get one for about 500 bucks.
