Samsung Series 9 Hands On

The Samsung Series 9 debuted at an odd time, before “Ultrabook” was a buzz word, and when a 2.8-pound laptop was novel enough to warrant a 49 price tag. A year later, it returns at an even more pivotal moment: Ultrabooks are cropping up by the dozens, and while their specs are similar to what the original Series 9 had to offer, they cost hundreds less. So with that as the backdrop, Samsung just announced a pair of slimmed-down, redesigned Series 9 laptops: a 13-inch remake, priced at 99 and up, and a new 15-inch form number that will cost 99-plus when the two go on sale next month. Though consumers are likely to draw comparisons between that 2.5-pound 13-incher and the umpteen other ultraportables hitting the market, Samsung isn’t positioning the Series 9 laptops as Ultrabooks, but rather, premium, top-tier machines. Still, for something that’s not an Ultrabook, the brothers Series 9 certainly look the part: both pack Core i5 processors, 4GB of RAM, 128GB SSDs, six-hour batteries and backlit keyboards — Ultrabook-like specs if ever we’ve heard them. Even the 15-inch model is missing an optical drive, and isn’t much larger than the last-gen Series 9.

I think, USB port should? compensate those !!
How does Ubuntu 12.04 perform on? it?
it doesn’t have optical? drive? CDrom? or anything like that?
I’ve typed on it, and its very mediocre. Comparing the S9 keyboard? to the Macbook air, Thinkpad X1, Dell XPS, or even Lenovo U310 is night and day.
How so? Im currently typing from my series 9 which i bought this week and theres no problems so far. Also the track pad? is so smooth and doesnt have the sticky feel like other laptops do.
I am thinking of purchasing the laptop for school and university. I would like to know your opinion about this laptop in comparsion to the new Dell XPS 15 (2012) and the Sony Z Series.
Also what are the capabilities of the Intel HD Graphics 4000 and will it play games like F1 2012, Virtua Tennis and FIFA 2012? Is it possible to get a 256 SSD storage option with 152? display in the UK?
I didn’t know price had anything? to do with Ultrabook branding. I thought it was just about size and thickness.
gimmy? >_> lol
That is a nice notebook. When ever I start working I know what I am going? to buy.
Keyboard ruins the series 9, sadly.?
I couldn’t agree with you more. I just purchased this laptop in the 13″ after having the sony S15 (IPS screen). I returned the sony &kept the samsung. Samsungs screen wasn’t far off Sony’s IPS screen quality when I had them side-by-side. But the quality& performance was way ahead in the sammy. Sony’s looked & felt flimsy. It had gaps between screen+bezel, whereas samsung looked and? felt handcrafted & more solid overall. Best laptop I’ve owned & I’ve had macbook, Asus ux31, HP DV6 and Sony S15
WHY WHY WHY would anyone care about the key depth or ‘travel’. My God? talk about pedantic.
(i have this laptop, and keyboard is? great)
Hi, I can now say that Samsung has over taken SONY,? if they keep going in ten years they could beat APPLE!
HIII
after a month having this laptop THIS IS most defineately the best laptop that i ever had. The designn is so amazing the performance for an ultrabook is just mind blowing (i played skyrim , diablo , star craft , all call of duty games , saints row , crysis 2) They are all playable even some of them on high graphics
Dont hestitate on this? laptop
thumbs up so others could see
Please also explain why. Certainly it doesn’t? look like it.
I’d pay for appearance if it meant I? could pay to make your comment disappear :-/
really? is there wait for applications to boot? yes, everyone waits
is? there an optical drive? hell, no
what about this hardware is worth $1500? absolutely NOTHING…you know why?
…because in another couple of years it’s value will decrease drastically and it will be considered outdated.
tell me how paying $1500 for a laptop will make my experience with managing emails, pictures, videos, internet browsing worth an additional $1200.
…you’re paying for appearance.
I think that depends on what you’re looking for. I travel for work. A lot, as in every other day. This laptop fits so well in my bag, I forget its in there. It’s like a very thin book. I get a lot of compliments from passengers? and security when I pull it out in the airport security check points. Great portability and the backlighting is handy. Great resolution and the chicklet keyboard feels solid. The boot time is quick but performance wise isnt anything worth bragging about. Pricey, but cool!
So u really think a $300 laptop would out? perform a $1500 ultra book REALLY ? Its more for MORE.
I was thinking about buying myself this laptop, How are you liking it? Is it? worth buying?
why? your statement does not make any sense. if you are an apple fan boy then i dont know if you realize that intel makes the same? cpu’s for both apple and other manufactures, there for your statement makes no sense. if you arent an apple fan boy then im just baffled.
Samsung cut corners by using aluminum instead of duraluminum. Maybe to keep the cost down but? i think that was one of their selling points.
This? review is about the computer cosmetics….
Does this fingerprint? easy?
