acer aspire 5920 screen flicker repair

I bought this laptop in Aug 08 and within 6 months the screen was flickering… badly! Then it went away for a few months and returned with a mission to destroy my life. So I downloaded the repair manual and with the help of the notebookreview.com forum I repaired it. This is the film of the book of the story. EDIT – I have uploaded a second video to show the screen disassembly and repair to the other end of the LCD cable.

great video. I was able to rectify the issue with these? tutorial.
WINDOWS 7:
if you have the problem with windows 7, try installing the vista drivers on windows 7, for me that works. NOTE: download them from the acer? website!
Fantastic – Thanks worked a treat, I used Blue Tac, tahnks? again
Great! So chuffed its working for so many people. There’s nothing worse than forking out hard earned dough only to find something “fundamentally” wrong. Kitchen towell, sticky tape, blue-tack, dried snot, whatever sticks!!?
Thanks Mate
i have tweaked it a tiny bit and instead of paper i have used sticky tape and? it works like a dream now
i would agree that their monitors/screens aren’t so good – the one i bought broke in less than a year (that’s why im here btw, cause i saw the screen thing) however, it had a 3 year warrenty (standard warrenty for that monitor) and they’re going to fix it. so i would recommend acer, just make sure you get a long warrenty if you buy a monitor from them. their? computers/laptops are fine. the screens on the laptops ive had no trouble with.
i wouldnt let that put you off acer, ive had lots of computers made by them and they’ve been more reliable than dell and hp. i bought a dell? desktop, the power supply made a high pitched noise because its crap and dells way of destroying the computer by giving it shitty power. hp made a high pitched cpu fan on a laptop, and the fan does not cool it at all; just makes a high pitched noise and is VERY LOUD. acer laptop i had lasted 7 years, and another desktop is nearly 7 years old and still works
Ha ha! Yeah i did that but on the floor and ended up? replacing the hard drive. Glad I could help.
Thank you so much for uploading this , I? was just about to fuck my laptop
out the window, just fixed it thanks to you. Cheers Man.
Yes?
Will? it work for a 5920g?
worked for me!, ironically i watched this video on my acer, was like hell? with the flicker!
i used toilet paper instead of? kitchen towel(;
Thank you for posting this video! My 3? year old Acer Aspire 5335 screen was flickering on and off and going black for weeks, it completely did my head in!
So i tried this out, and so far it has been working normally again. YAY!
I am a total noob to fixing laptops, never tried before, but i thought i would give it a go and it seems to to have fixed the problem. On my 5335 i could just snap the front panel off without unscrewing anything. Thank you so much!
Thanks so much for taking the time to post your fix. Worked a treat on my 5920, which has been driving me mad for months. ?
My screen? is flickering too bad I cant watch video
I have the 7730G. Moving the screen back and forth always helped but not for a long time,? flickering usually came back after a while or immediately. However, the screen didn’t flicker at all when pushed to the very back but this method stopped working too! Today I found this video, I followed the steps on my laptop and now it seems to be working properly! Thank you so much! It was easy, simple and quick! And I didn’t have to replace any parts
Help! I have the 5920, after dealing with the screen flicker for a while (and fixing it) the screen has given up. The problem is inside the casing, on the back of the screen, the cable that runs up? the back and looks like its covered in tinfoil, lol. You mention it in one of your vids-say to pull it out gently? Re-plugging it in again worked before, but now it only works if you kind of pull it back, like its faulty. Anyway -my question-What is this cable called? I’m hoping to repair/replace it!
Sorry I don’t other than the unit will be bolted? together with screws and they will be located on the underside of your laptop. There’s a lot of videos on YT no relating to Acer screen flicker so check them out and maybe you’ll get a better handle on how to deal with it. Good luck.
This is the bane of my life. My screen flickers and? disappears. If i move it back and forth it comes on again. Access to the connection cable for my screen is not as easy. Any recommendations for accesing this cable for an Acer aspire 5741.
buy an mac ! , Acer pcs is just some kind of shit ! , too many acer pcs have stopped work entirely without any reason , i got the acer aspire 9300 and black screen , tooo many people with black screen problems , mac has allways been the first , now i got an iMac for 15 000,- in norwegian money? , 7 500 $ is 15 000 norwegian money , buy an mac !
its not that expensive for an mac , but i buyed an expensive one
buy an macbook or imac , buy an 13″
I wouldn’t let it put you off Acer entirely. I’ve just replaced the? laptop in the video after nearly four years of use and it took a hammering. Once the flicker was repaired very little else went wrong.
I’ve just replaced it with…. guess… yes thats right, another Acer. The Aspire S3 which is pretty nice. The difference is that I bought it from John Lewis (a shop to all you non-UK people not a chap selling knock off pcs!) so it comes with a 5 year no quibble guarantee.
They can’t all be bad..
So this flicker thing seems to be a design fault I was? actually going ti buy a acer but I wont be buying one now.
I couldnt see it, my monitor was? flickering…
Wow. Hi praise? indeed! Thank you. I’m glad I could be helpful!
