We could easily feel the heat through the window. I have a thermometer right outside the window and I never thought to look at it while the fire was raging.

It’s about 150 feet from my house. This is just about how it looked to the naked eye, standing in my dining room. (Old formula from film days said 55mm = "normal" (naked eye) view. This was shot at 40mm so it’s close to that.)

At first, I was so asleep the photos (like this one) didn’t really turn out as well as they could have.

I gave a CD of the photos to the fire department people before they left the scene at 6am. They figured it’d had ignited about an hour before they arrived, and probably started shortly before 2 am.

One car in the garage was destroyed and at least 2 cars parked outside it are heavily damaged/burned; as well as the northwest side of the neighbor’s garage (see lower photo), and there was heavy smoke inside that same neighbor’s house.
