Harbor Freight Solar Panels: Why Harbor Freight Brand?
I bought the Harbor Frieght solar panels because I do not plan on using them to run my entire house. I will use them when I don’t have any grid power so I can charge batteries, run my laptop, ceiling fan, window airconditioner, power tools, etc. The Harbor Freight solar panels are inexpensive, easy to setup and if one breaks you only lose 15 watts.

You can measure rated voltage from a panel? in low light but very little current is available. Volts x Amps = Watts
I agree 100%. That is why I replaced my HF? system with 220watt mono’s. Please see my “DIY Solar Panel System” video series for more info on what I did and why.
The Anamorphic with its very long cells is the master of low and indirect light, but you will need LOT of space to get the wattage you need. The mono’s are great but only in bright direct sunlight. I used a poly on my little project, which is a bit of a balance between the two. They HF panels are great for what they are intended? for a simple complete kit to run a couple of 5 watt bulbs and have a little standby power for something else.

H.F. panels are anamorphic cells and lose 30-40% of their rating during a burn in phase of 6 months to a year. Sure you may show 18 volts, you could do that under a light bulb, but it is the amps that matter the most. Your charge LED can blink but if amps are at say, 1 amp, it would take? 35 hours to charge a single 35 amp/hour battery. A fully working H.F. 3 panel, 45 watt system maxes at around 3.75 Amps so if they function at 100% it still takes about 9 hours to charge a 35 amp/hour battery.
The best way to “for sure” know how much power you will need to store in your battery bank is to run all your appliances through a Kill-A-Watt meter for one week. It will tell you exactly how many? watts they all used. Then if it were me I would double that amount and try to store the doubled amount in batteries.
Originally I had planned on buying a single 300watt panel, following the dollar per watt guideline but the last time I went to Harbor Freight they had the kit in-stock for 159.99 and I had a 20% coupon, I couldn’t resist. I may not have keep to the plan but my goal is to power some led lights, a fan and maby a 9″ tv during hurricane season. my dilemma is how many amp hours will i need for those? items when i expect to be without power for a week and have overs cast skys for 3days after the storm

I found that the new kit is actually an upgrade. The pvc tubs are VERY thick, heavy and stable.The PVC kit can be assembled by one person as the aluminum kit is very flimsy and doesn’t get rigid until all the panels are on it because the old kit uses the panels themselves to make the frame somewhat rigid. The? new panels bezel supports the panels more fully and have mount hole built into the panel so you don’t even need the frame to mount them. also salt air doesn’t attack these new panels.

If you live in a homeowners association you can’t do modifications to the home or? yard without their permission. It has do with a private group community rules, its not breaking the law.
You might consider the 220 watt panels I now use instead of the? HF. Search my channel for “DIY solar panel”.
Congradulations on a very nice setup! I wanted to ? do the same thing, but at my harbor frieght they dont have the panels that are in aluminum frames. They went to plastic frames which I hate. They dont have the mounts that are metal either, they give you cheap PVC pipe frames which really suck. Theres hardly any way to fasten them to a roof or like you have done. I wish they would have stuck with aluminum framed ones.

So, how many watts of AC can you? run full load? Your using these with out a battery bank..right?
wouldn’t it be easier to use 2 -100w panels ? ? Much less space.

In the middle of this particular video you mentioned something like “having those below the fence line so you would not have problems with *** (I did not get that part too well)” and I’d like to have a little explanation about why you cannot put those on your roof.
