just before i’m going on holidays, i’ve bought a phototrackr!

the software that came with the phototrackr is quite horrible (not only the layout, but it also took me quite some time before i succeeded to get the gps data in the pictures), so i’ve decided to use the free software geosetter. happier now: much more detailed, more user friendly, and a better layout!

concerning the phototrackr itself:
+ able to adjust recording speed between 1 and 3600 seconds.
+ small and quite fast
- only able to adjust recording speed and other hardware changes when the phototrackr is connected to a computer
- after changing hardware / battery it needs 10 minutes to find gps data

just a regular comment on photos: i don’t like it that the exif data gets lost when cropping a file with irfanview. i don’t want to use photoshop or other big programs if i only need to crop pictures. love irfanview, because it’s simple and very fast to use

Dug this up somewhere in my lab. 12GB of storage on a cassette tape. 125m of cassette tape! Anyone familiar with this kind of storage tapes? I haven’t used any before and don’t think I ever will… ^^. Went over to Amazon to check out the product description.

Nice!

How quick is it in finding the GPS satellites when moving between indoors/outdoors?

Btw. perhaps you could try to use Adobe Lightroom, it’s also quite big but might nice for enhancing and cataloging photos.

What version of irfanview are you using? Did you add all plugins? I haven’t had that problem with it. I’ve been using ver 4.10 and now 4.20 is available. Check what boxes are checked when you save the image after cropping. I use irfanview for viewing all my images, it’s quick and easy. PS is still best for serious work.

haven’t tested that extensively, because i don’t go outdoors nowadays :p but we can test that in bolsena! anyway, it takes about 1-2 minutes when i leave it close to the window, but yesterday it also worked indoors. it should take less than 1 min according to the reviews i’ve read.

thanks for the suggestions! i use version 3.98, so it’s time to update i love photoshop, but it’s not perfect: i prefer the way one can crop with irfanview over ps and also miss some essential shortcuts in ps, it’s tiring to have to use the mouse so much

mah, it still doesn’t work (4.10, all plugins installed, boxes checked). also not if i do not change the name of the file after cropping. size editing functions that change the proportions of the image cause a deletion of the exif data (cropping, rotating, but not just changing the size of the image). annoying!

Wouldn’t a workflow of exporting the EXIF data, adjusting the photo using IrfanView, and then reimporting the EXIF data do the trick?

i do think so, but then i cannot save the adjusted photo under a different filename. i can also couple exif data of photos in the program geosetter, but i don’t want to lose more time on working on my pictures

update: this phototrackr fell in a glass of white wine. it still works (and smells great too)!
