Build your own A123 RC receiver pack
This video shows you how to build a 2-cell A123 receiver pack for your RC model airplanes. A123 batteries are the very best option for modern 2.4GHz RC systems because they provide plenty of voltage headroom and astonishing current-handling capabilities. They’re also far safer than lipos, have no “memory” and won’t be destroyed if you accidentally run them completely flat. Using this video as a guide, you can build your own super-good A123 receiver pack for around US. I use these 1100mAH packs in my glow-powered models up to 1.20 cubic inches (20cc) and also any gliders larger than a DLG. For bigger IC models, you can use the 2300mAH A123 cells and the same techniques. A 2S 2300mAH A123 pack can be used in planes as large as a 55cc gaser with two 2300mAH packs (fed through two switch harnesses) capable of powering even a 40% model. You can discuss this project in the comments on this video or in the RCModelReviews forums at: www.rcmodelreviews.com Here are the sources of the materials used in this video: A123 cells (wait on the page for the best price pop-up): www.hobbyking.com Heat-shrink (large and small): www.radicalrc.com Balance leads: www.rctimer.com or www.himodel.com

Great video! Thanks!?
where did you get those long a123? cells?
Very good video Sir.? Thank you.
great video, most? helpful, thanx
I have never watched a video on? batteries for half an hour, that’s full credit to you matey you’d make a pencil sound interesting
Hi Bruce,
Would you still need a UBEC or do you plug the pack directly into the receiver, and why would you need a UBEC in separate? battery for rx scenario? many thanks!
Thanks for the video? Bruce!, I just made a 1100mAh Ignition and a 2300mAh rx pack.
I’m really starting to embrace the DIY aspect of this hobby.
Also when with some FrSky gear based off your reviews, cheers.
Bruce , would you please let us know where is the best place to get real A123 batteries , possibly with the taps connected together in diffrent combination if you choose to ? someone asked you if those a123 he bought for 5$ -2pcs are real -were they , and if so , please where to get them? ?
did he looked at them , cause we see no answer , and if so are they real ? and where to get them please ?
nice? …but uffff you talk too much.
Can the Trustfire A123 cells used in the battery mod for the? Turnigy 9X be used to power a tell (Trex 450) if wired correctly? I have a bunch coming in the mail and wanted to know if I could make a flight pack(s) out of some. Thanks. BTW, I love your vids they are very informative.
Oh and by the way, it really doesnt matter how you pronounce solder, as an American, I’m used to hearing things pronounced differently even by people in my own country. I do enjoy hearing people from other countries with different accents speak. Again, I enjoy watching and learning alot from your videos very? much. As someone who’s mechanicaly inclined but new to the RC world, it’s very good to have someone knowledgable such as yourself helping out. Thank you sir!
Bruce you’re awesome!? I’ve actually taken to pronouncing the “L” because it sounds a bit better or betta depending on where you’re from. Ha Ha Seriously, sodder doesn’t sound very good does it? I appreciate you taking everyone’s views to heart and I love your videos! Now tell me my friend, is it possible to attach a balance lead to rechargeable Ni Cd AA battrees? I have recently purchased a TH9X and would like to balance charge the battrees in the holder that comes with the unit.
every time you say? soder i die a little inside
solder? !!!!!!
can you trickle charge? these?
G’day! Brilliant video, I’ll be using this on my new FMS T-28 1400mm (running 4s 3600mAh) which has 3 servoless retracts and 11 servos, how long do you reckon? the voltage will last safely on a flight?
Thanks for the info. keep up the good? work.
Great job.I’ve been thinking of making one of this packs? my self and you video will make it easier.
bullet proof? pffff
Bruce,
Your English? is fine. Keep up the good work..
im getting into giant gassers, starting at a 55cc aj slick, planned on having 150-300 torq rating servos going, its one servo per aileron, ,
I know that quite a range in torq there , but uncertain atm of what i can get away with servo wise on these..
Was looking for suggestion on battery? pack, mayb packs? for this / including ignition.. I like the idea of not needing to overworry about balancing packs with lipos, and the danger of lipos…
excellent? video!!!
hi? what kind of reciver tranmitter to use and would i still need the battey to use the motor thanks
