Julina,
I have a 2002 BMW 325i key fob that I just changed the battery on. It was a PAIN! I don’t think BMW meant for these batteries to be replaced, but the one I used was a Panasonic V2020. I found the video here on YouTube. I had to splice the sides with a utility knife (took about 20 minutes, it’s thick plastic!) and then went? to Batteries Plus where they special-ordered the battery. Costs about $15.00. The associate removed the old battery and soldered my new one in… (cont…)
Hello, Keys have an antitheft protection device in the form of an internal chip that must be identified by the vehicle. A used FOB will not be able to be used with any other vehicle other than the one it? was made for unless the chip is reprogrammed. Even the dealer cannot do this for you. But a company called RPM motorsport might be able to do this for you. RPM motorsport dot n e t But it might be better to just order a key from the dealer that is already coded and programmed.
Hello,
I want to buy a used FOB from ebay. can i reprogram it to? open/close start my e90? pls advise
THANKS YOU?
VERY MUCH!
Thanks? for watching
and the great comment!
Awesome- thanks for? posting!
Thanks for the reply
i’ll definitely take your advice into consideration and find a speciality shop for normal things? like oil changes etc. Cheers again
If you use a? specialty shop that works on BMW’s you can have some service done but for most things the dealer is the way to go. The cost is more but in most cases the techs are more skilled and have the right tools for the job. So you know, the dealer can offer you two years warranty on parts and labor on any replaced item you purchase regardless of mileage. But for oil changes, brakes, or regular maintenance another shop should be able to do these repairs.
Hello Julina, The key is made to charge in the key holder. If you take a long drive it may be enough to charge the key. Also if you go to? the BMW service center they can charge your key in the tool called a key reader. Most BMW shops do not even know that they can do this so you may have to let them know. The key reader acts like a charger so they only need keep the key in the key reader for a few hours to charge it up. If the warning comes on again the only fix is to replace the key.
P.S… I just asked a question about the key battery… but was also wondering your thoughts on taking BMWs to non-bmw mechanics to get it serviced etc. I’ve only ever taken my car to BMW because? I am worried other mechanics don’t have the technology to properly service the car. However it isn’t cheap so I am wondering if going to a non-bmw mechanic would still be sufficient. Thanks again
Hi there, thanks for the great video! i have a question though… as “makonja” mentioned, i also have the same key? that is just one piece of plastic. i read your response and you mentioned it is not replaceable. I have been overseas for 3 weeks (i had my family friend run my car once) and have just come back. i started my car yesterday and the battery symbol with a key over it appeared. Any ideas on what I do since you mention the battery is non replaceable? shall i take my car to BMW? Thanks
Tnx. My problem is that buttons on my remotes are not working. The car starts normaly when I insert the key, but I am unable to unlock/lock the car by pressing buttons. I have? 2 keys and both stoped working in the same time. Cant remember if car lost power from the battery in that time. I guess I would need to check fuse box?
The key you have would be non comfort access.? The battery in that key is not replacable. If you have another key you can try to open up the key to relace the internal battery but at times this can result in the key no longer allowing the vehicle to start.
What symptoms do you have? Doors not unlocking or no start?
I have the same looking? key, but it looks like its made from one peace of plastic. I dont have this little cover for replacing the battery. any ideas?
Hello, That is a good question
I believe that this will be the? square key with the slot in 2007 unless it was an early production vehicle. I have to admit I never paid much attention to the date change
Both keys have remote functions even with the blade style.
I have a question. I’m looking at a? 2007 328i coupe with premium and sports package. What kind of key do k get? A traditional blade or a remote….it doesn’t have comfort access
thanks good info,? I have the same problem with my BMW 5 series smart key
our dealer told us the same thing,? $500 aus to order new keys from germany. did you have any problems after replacing the battery? we are going to do the same thing and DIY
Hello,
Make sure you have the key with the replaceable battery by checking for the cut out. Then remove the mechanical key. Under the mechanical key portion? is a small cut out. Using a pick or small screw driver twist slightly to pop the cover off. Let me know how it goes
thankyou, bmw told my wife she would need? to buy a new key 275 euro, got it working thanks to your video
