Silver refining
A micro-scale experiment explaining some principles related to the refining process of silver. Some Questions and answers: -Why use such a small container? =Because the larger the container the more solution of silver nitrate is required, which means that more of your silver is trapped in there. -What are those small spots on your skin? =As you can imagine, it is due to silver nitrate splashes that landed on it. It is not so tragic, I tell everyone that I refilled a printer ink cartridge. -Dude, how can you know that the silver content is 70% ? =Well, I know what went into that jar, that’s why. -Could you build a much better power supply? Theoretically I could, out of two transformers. But I have not found the right types yet. Actually anything that can supply (DC current) a voltage between 1,5 and 3,5 V and lots of Amps (goes anywhere from 10A to 800A) is suited for the job. Plating rectifiers do the job, but they cost a lot. -Didn’t your @1,5V time lapse take too long for producing almost nothing? =The batteries were already a bit consumed, I didn’t measure it but I guess the current was much smaller than 0,28A. Theoretically each battery can supply at least 2000mAh which means that each battery can plate out 8048g of pure silver. -70% of 25g makes 17,5g, you only got 16,9g of fine silver, where is the rest of it? =The rest of the silver is in the first solution where I left the copper tube in, a small part is in the electrolyte solution because it had a bit of free …

Hi Dutch. Do you? know if i use borax while melting would get better fine silver?
My compliments…. this is the BEST ( easy and working ) Silver refinery movie ever!
Did it? the same way with some silver coins…. about 25 gram of silver
And how you get the rest of silver? left over in the acid solution?
Hi, since you got only about 96/99 per cent of silver using nitric acid can you use borax in it while you are torching? to get 0.999 Pure Silver? Or , Is there any another way to get 0.999 Pure Fine Silver using nitric acid? Thanks
Forgive me as I was so enamoured by the video in its entirety but why? continue with the process if, after ou torched the silver and got that nice little nugget, why continue on?
both pull out the silver first with the copper then try lead or al to pull? out the copper it works
One other thing… is the electrolyte ONLY silver? nitrate, or is there copper nitrate in it too? Thanks
That’s a great video fedaikn, I have a big pile of silver scraps of all kinds including solder. The metal dealer local to me won’t? buy it because it’s not pure enough so I will try this out.
:applause:!!
But there is a little amont of Copper in the silver.
?
Almost any place that buys and sells silver, will also take sterling silver, and refining it is usually a waste of time. It could be worthwhile to refine yourself if you got a lot? of really low quality, or mixed quality silver scrap that you can get cheap enough.
I’d talk with your local coin shops / shops that deal in precious metal first, to find out if it you need to refine at all, if it would make you any more money by doing so, and if you’ll actually make a profit.
So can this silver be sold at places that buy/sell gold and silver? because if so I think I just found out how to make money in no? time.
Making 100 percent nitric acid is impractical with our level of technology. it is currently only practical to make 67% solutions. most anything that you use nitric for don’t call for anything higher than that anyway. if you can get higher, which gets VERY expensive, the reverse ends up happening: the acid actually form a shield against itself and ends up protecting the mtal that? you are trying to dissolve. check out make nitric acid: the complete guide by Nerdrage. he does better than i.
the comment that the guy had commented on was referring to the use of some Hydrocloric Acid to form Aqua Regia. Aqua Regia? can, by context of the coversation, make dilute silver precipitate from a solution. you don’t put the copper tube in the solution again and again, if that solution was going to work, then you would have had to pull out the tube before the reaction was finished working.
dude your the man if you can do all that? in 6:31
How pure is the nitric acid you are using. The commercial nitric acid? I can find is 68% nitric acid. Does that work also?
I got some that gold and sivler plated stuff for sale. if u interested in it i’ll? put it on ebay
Does the silver in the solution get spent or the anode silver?
Thx!?

Dude, I’m replicating your experiment right now, so I just palce a copper tube inside that solution again and again till nothing happens. By the way, you’re a genius. I tell you man, you’re a? genius!
you say in the beginning? to pour nitric acid into the jar what percentage nitric acid 100% or weaker?
I did two times refining of silver because i wanted to make silver nitrate and? my solution of silver nitrate has pale blue color. When i was washing powder silver of copper nitrate i washed it many times and all of copper nitrate shouldn’t be there. Is possible to be thre some particles of copper metal?
This man is? a genius!!!!!
you can also melt it in a clay vase just get some clay make a small vase with a tiny neck with the silver inside then take it to the pottery shop and say can you fire this vase for me its for mothers day,
then when its fired crack it open and get? the silver out
i made silver metal the video is? on my channel so i hope you watch it
