I’m thinking, what is wrong with these pilots? How can they be so disrespectful? Don’t they realize what they’re doing? Is this just some kind of game to them?

I’ll never forget the first year after 9-11, when a pair of hot-dog jet pilots had a "race" up the Hudson River, at full throttle, in the pre-dawn hours — making a thunderous noise that woke up almost everyone in Manhattan.

Military officials first denied that it had taken place, and then later admitted, somewhat sheepishly, that the pilots had been reprimanded for their actions. Apparently it was at the end of their "shift" of flying over NYC (as if Osama was coming back to launch another attack on the first anniversary), and the pilots were bored…

Is it just me, but isn’t low flying aircraft exactly NOT how to commemorate an air raid on our city? It would be one thing if jet fighters had intercepted the hijacked planes and miraculously brought the incident to a peaceful conclusion, but they didn’t and aircraft over Manhattan has bothered me since. Doesn’t anyone think this through?
