Please send me a message or check out www.FastVideoTech.com If you plan on working on your laptop, please take notes and take your time. This video makes things look very easy. Some connectors will fall apart easier than they will disconnect and can take several minutes to slowly work apart. It is VERY easy to break small components that are expensive to replace. Depending on your individual skill level you may have more of a chance of breaking something than fixing something so if your laptop is important to you, please let an experienced technician handle it. I have over 10 years experience working with computers. I will try my best to answer questions but please keep them related to the video and the work being done. Thank you for watching! Where can n you purchase a? new DC jack??
Dear FastVideoTech. I? love what you are doing, but I hate the music, so much so that I did not get near the end of this. Maybe you never speak, but I don’t know that, and so turning off the sound is not an option. It’s not just heavy metal music that I hate, it’s all music that nowadays MUST accompany everything – How It’s Made, and lookalikes do it too. I do not need a perpetual soundtrack for my life to be meaningful. I would MUCH rather hear you explain what you are doing. You can still FF.
If I send you an Inspiron 8500? can you refurb it for me?
Thanks my cousin gave my the computer hoping i could fix it? he got a new one though so now i can sell this thing
Heat? gun
Heat gun is the way to go, it only takes a minute or two to remove, then i fill the holes with a little solder. place the new connector under board, and as soon as you heat it up, the pins on? the new connector will slide through the holes no problem. Remove heat and your done solid, and like new. There is far less damage to the board, and you can reduce your time to about 30 minutes this way.
They told me? $55
I was wondering how much a? tech would charge to do this job? My son’s needs replaced, and I figure his older laptop would not be worth the cost of getting it fixed. Any ideas on how much someone would charge for this procedure?
i can’t seem to remove the power jack even after i have removed the solder is it? possible that dell glued the power jack to the motherboard? or do you have and suggestions?
DUDE? YOUR AWESOME!!!!!!
@FastVideoTech
Hey I have an Inspiron 6000 that I’ve owned for 6 years, and after 1 or 2 hours not attached to its wall charger it becomes completely non responsive, except for the power button (hold for a few? secs to turn off). I’ve tried to use the wall charger, but that seems to accelerate the time it takes to freeze up. I also noted that the charger and computer gets quite warm quickly too. Currently, I am trying to get to the fan to give it a good clean, but can’t figure out how you discon
Could you please specify what is the part number or name of the connector you are replacing? Where can someone buy it and how? to ask for it? Thank you, great work!
I? have had my Inspiron since 2005 and recently the power jack on the back was getting flimsy. I followed your video and made sure I labeled all of the small screws while disassembling the laptop and saw that two of the points on the power jack had broken free of their solder. My soldering iron struggled to get the joints hot enough, but eventually i got a good solder joint on all of them.
Works like a charm now
THANKS!!!
If your AC adapter checks out good and your laptop doesn’t power up on? AC only with the battery removed, or the charging indicator light doesn’t come on, the power jack could be in question. If there was a severe bump to the power jack while the computer was plugged in, and the adapter plug now fits loosely in the power jack, replacement is definitely a must.
how would u know if your power jack doesn’t work…….can you tell me. My laptop does not power on it? kept getting hot. I clean out the fan and still no power.
I need one of those power connectors for the exact same model.? Where can I get one ?
Happy I helped. Good job! Thank you for letting? me know!
A big thank you from me. Despite having never opened a laptop before, I managed to follow your video and replace the power jack in my daughter’s Inspiron 6000. She thinks I’ve been very clever but it’s all down to you. Thank you? for taking the trouble to video this repair.
Desoldering braid with flux.? If you go to 5:58 you can click on my video and see how I do it.
Hi there.
Any tips about removing the connector?
Some times I? get stressed only to melt the original solder, not even talking about removing it.
Best Regards.
