Apple products on a desk
I bought the white MacBook in September 2006. It’s always been a top performer. Over the last couple of years it’s been the computer the kids have used and abused.
Last year the hard drive failed and I recently go around to buying a new one. Once fitted last week I wasn’t able to get Mac OS X to install from my drop in DVD due to it being scratched.
Today I had an appointment at the local Apple Store where the Genius installed Mac OS X 10.6 for me, but also noted that the top case was cracked at the palm rest. He also noticed that a couple of keys were sticking.
He cheerfully announced he’d get this fixed for me too.
90 minutes later I got a call from the store to say the laptop was ready. And I tell you what, it’s as good as new, what with the battery have been replaced a couple of years ago.
Goodbye old hottness, hello new hottness.

My mom’s new hottness, her sea-green iPod Nano. The Rio Carbon was her first mp3 player. It was a good mp3 player, but it went the way of most lithium-ion battery based products where the charging didn’t make much of a difference in keep it alive anymore. So goodbye trusty Rio Carbon, hello to the glorious Apple iPod Nano. You know what? This the 2nd iPod I’ve registered in my computer within the past five weeks.

My messy desk, showing off my many gadgets. View for way too many notes.

Stuff that’s coming to Montana (and probably some stuff that isn’t (and some invisible stuff))
My desk set up for the phone interview

I’m a bit anal retentive. I didn’t actually use half this stuff during the interview, but I’m glad I had it in front of me.

I came upon the little shelter you can see in the background over a year ago. The dogs and I hiked up to it again today. Last year it had been recently occupied (based on the battery operated clock that was still running) and we looked about and left. This time I poked around through the wet junk that had been left behind and found this cup, a disintegrating copy of the title tome and the remains of a couple of notebooks. The notebooks were too far gone to read anything, but since the author abandoned them I have to believe they must not have contained anything particularly profound.
Anyway, I got a nice soup cup out of the deal.

Even without that huge 24" LCD, it looked like a very good idea, to place all of the 110V-AC gear together with the laptop inside the big Stanley-box.
But NOW I think this isn’t all that useful :
- will want to have the laptop for GPS/NAVI use in the cockpit
- want to recharge batteries while driving (in the car’s cockpit)

My MacBookPro battery is one of the ones affected by the loss of power problem. Here is what it looks like from the bottom of the computer.

Grrrrr I say. Although it says no charge, they did charge me 0 dollars to plug in that computer to check the error code. Stupid.

The stuff I’ve been using lately. It piles up on my desk, although it’s not so much a vertical pile (yet) as it is a horizontal sprawl.
I stumbled across user jendaviswilson‘s awesome iPod cord crochet chain. It took me a few tries, but I finally got it to work! (I am not very good at crafts.) That’s the crocheted cord in the centre of the photo.

I’m frantically working away on my proposal and comprehensive exam and the result is that I’ve had a headache for about a month now from spending every single damn day sitting in front of my computer. I was staring at this battery seriously considering driving it into the base of my skull which, in my semi-delusional state at the time, I thought would alleviate the pain from having the muscles in the back of my neck refuse to loosen up. I decided taking a photo was a better option.

See notes for description; I can’t be bothered typing it out twice.

This is all the crap I have loaded in the menu bar of my MacBook. Luckily, at least at work, I have a superbigass monitor.

No need to call the fire department (yet): The replacement battery for the Powerbook is here – it’s the one in the plastic wrap in case you wondered.

Somewhere I saw someone had posted an annotated photo of their desk. Having much better things to do today, I decided to procrastinate and post this instead.
Too much stuff

I had a great photo shoot on location yesterday. Was meant to carry some summer-y feeling. What happened was that it was slightly above freezing and it was raining for the most part (even some snow flakes towards the end). So my gear got very wet and I had to lay it all out for drying.
And when I pretty much had to use a whole room to do so I realized something: I have a lot of gear
And this is far from all! Not showing are camera and more lenses, five light stands, three umbrellas, two softboxes, all the bags I use to haul it all around, and some more small stuff (filters and such)…
