Notebook computers. At this point in the 21st century, they have become an indispenable part of many people’s everyday lives. From the commuting business executive and the busy college student, we all want to be mobile with our computers. The big drawback of that is the fact that there is not always a plug around when you need one. A notebook computer’s battery is its life-blood. Without proper care, your notebook battery could fail much earlier than anticipated. By following a few simple steps, you can expect to get the greatest amount of usage possible out of your notebook battery before a replacement is needed.

1. Upon purchase, charge the battery to full capacity. Whether you have purchased a new computer have purchased a new battery for your laptop, charging it fully as soon as you open the box is the best recommendation. This allows the battery to reach a full capacity before you begin to use it “unplugged”. Most batteries come with a partial charge, enough to get you going if you absolutely had to. Giving that battery a full charge when it is brand new will help set the charge capacity for the battery at its highest possible level.

2. Once you reach a full charge, leave the computer plugged in for at least 2 hours. This action lets the battery “rest” at a full charge for a fairly lengthy period of time. At this point, the battery is not drawing power from your wall socket to charge, and it is also not supplying any power to your system. Letting your battery rest for a time after a full charge helps to “lock-in” that full charge capacity.

3. Unplug the computer and drain the battery. It might sound silly, but now that you have gotten that battery to a full charge, you need to drain the power almost completely. Again, this will help determine the charge capacity of the battery. Leave your computer unplugged and use it until you get a warning telling you that the battery is almost completely discharge. Then save whatever you are working on and power the computer down. Plug back into the wall socket for a fresh charge. Then use the computer at your leisure.

If you follow these steps about once a month, your notebook battery should last a nice long while. Not to say that you will never have to replace it, but at least it will be a long time before you need to.

Easy Ways To Extend Your Laptop Battery Life

The unique heading of this article was going to be the lines of “Why my laptop battery life does is very short?” for the reason that exactly the query most of us ask one time our laptop battery life starts getting less and very less. It is not exceptional to find a used laptop that has a lifetime of about twenty minutes. They are essentially not anything more than a costly UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply). This badly limits the laptops portability.

The most significant aspect for increasing your laptop battery life is somewhat the majority of us not at all think about matching your laptop battery to the exact charger. According to Author, you must be confident that the charger & laptop battery match & that the charger is of high class quality. In fact, the only thing you can do to make sure this is to purchase your laptop supplies from the original manufacturer & only purchase them for your correct model.

The fact is that even a little dissimilarity in o/p voltage b/w chargers can have a big effect on the total lifetime of your laptop battery by either in excess of or less charging the battery.

You can get a low-priced charger almost anyplace, but the charger is ten millivolts, you will get a reduced amount of a charge & will not get best performance. For instance, a 4.1 volt battery charged with a 4.05 volt charger will be good for about four thousand charges. It is not an excellent idea to buy chargers & extra laptop batteries from the laptop maker, but it is best to buy these things when the time of purchasing the laptop. This will decrease the possibilities of manufacturing varies or dissimilarities within the accessories.

The other important factor of laptop battery is Temperature. It is weird but fact laptops are not really designed for laps. When you see the base of a laptop shows rubber cushions or feet, which keep it raises little bit of your surfaces it is sufficient for correct ventilation. Once that gap is disturbed (for instance, when you having it on your lap), you shut that space & the laptop is enforced to run much hotter than it should. If you doing this on a daily base then it possibly shorten the lifetime of the laptops battery. So better give some airflow to your laptop by using the laptop desk which is designed especially for your laptop.

These are the easy ways to extend your laptop batteries life.

5 Tips to Extend Your Laptop Battery’s Life

5 Tips to Extend Your Laptop Battery’s Life

There’s been a lot of talk recently about toshiba satellite a60 battery life — we told you, for example, about how some folks thought Windows 7 was misreporting laptop battery levels, but in reality it appears that the OS is simply accurately indicating battery wear, so you can be better informed about when to replace the battery.

Your laptop battery, you see, starts losing capacity as soon as you drive it off the lot, and after a year or two you might need to get a new battery just to get an hour or two away from an outlet.

So what steps can you take to make the battery last as long as possible? Mind you, I’m not talking about optimizing the runtime on a single charge. I am talking about getting as much mileage as possible from a battery before you have to replace it just to get a reasonable runtime out of each charge. Here are a few ways you can get the most out of your laptop battery:

1. Keep your laptop battery cool. Batteries degrade more quickly when they’re hot. That means you should keep vents clear — don’t put your laptop on a fluffy pillow or a cushioned surface that will cover vents and trap heat.

2. Don’t pack your laptop away in a backpack or other enclosed space when the battery is still warm, trapping the heat. A battery that’s frequently hot to the touch will lose life a lot faster than a battery that isn’t constantly being stressed. Worst of all: If your laptop crashes or refuses to shut off properly, the battery can get extremely hot when packed away in your bag. Check it to make sure it hasn’t gotten dangerously hot while stowed away over the weekend.

3. Don’t charge your laptop constantly. If you only occasionally take your laptop away from a power outlet, but leave it plugged in to charge 24/7, you’re leaving your laptop in a state of perpetual charge at the 100% point — and that is bad for the battery’s long-time health.

4. If you tend to use your laptop mainly at your desk, exercise your laptop battery by running it down and recharging it once or (even better) twice a month.

5. Alternately, you might want to physically remove the laptop battery if you’re using the laptop at your desk for long stretches of time. If you do remove it, don’t store it in a fully charged or depleted state. It’s best to store it in the middle — between 40 and 50 percent of full charge.

How to Extend Your Laptop Battery Life to Save Time, Effort, and Money

How to Extend Your Laptop Battery Life to Save Time, Effort, and Money

If you’re always on the move, your laptop’s power will have to depend on the battery. To make sure that your laptop battery life will extend for years, you’ll have to take good care of it.

Whenever you use different programs for your laptop, you’ll also be using up a lot of RAM, which ultimately needs a lot more power to work faster, thus producing more heat, and thus having to use up more power to counter that heat. Don’t get caught up in the never-ending cycle.

The best way in extending your laptop battery life is to make sure that your laptop doesn’t overheat. Don’t put use your laptop on a cushion or pillow as this will stop the airflow that keeps your laptop cool. Instead, use a wooden or glass table, which cools part of the air completely. For extra insurance, you can put a book underneath your laptop to make sure that the fan will work and that the air can effectively cool down the area.

Putting your laptop into hibernate mode may be a slower boot than simply putting it on standby, but this will also save your battery. Putting your computer on hibernate mode saves your desktop on the last time you use it, but it also shuts down your computer so your battery won’t take up much power.

Extending your laptop battery life requires that you take good care of your batteries so it won’t get worn off quickly. Make sure that you drain your batteries once a month, and use it at least once a week until it drains.

If you have another laptop battery, keep it charged but store it for only one or two days before using it as the other one charges. Don’t keep your laptop plugged and charging when the battery is already full. Doing all these will not only be extending your laptop battery life, but will also make sure that you won’t be spending us much trying to get your computer fixed, or buying new laptop batteries.

How To take care your laptop battery?

When using a laptop as a desktop replacement the battery should not be left in for long periods of time. The laptop will over time discharge the battery. Remove the battery, making sure that it is charged to 50% and store it in a dry, warm place. Ensure that it is wrapped protectively and nothing will be dropped on it.

The battery should be re-installed every 3-4 weeks and allowed to fully discharge. Leaving a battery in storage for longer than this without using could cause the battery to fully discharge as the circuitry of the battery itself consumes power.

Leaving a battery in a laptop while using an electrical outlet for long periods of time will keep the battery in a constant state of charging up and that will reduce the life cycle of the laptop battery.

Some Tips to Extend Your Laptop Battery Life

You seasoned techies are no doubt thinking, “Another article on how to get more life from your laptop battery. Big deal. I already know how to do that.” Well, Mr. or Ms. Techie, I scoff at your hubris. There’s still plenty to learn when it comes to getting more juice from a charge and extending your battery’s overall life.
So, yes, there are tips that most of us know:

Dim your screen.
Minimize background processes.
Don’t use the CD/DVD drive.
Disable your wireless antenna when not in use.

But there’s still a lot you may not know about laptop battery technology and the things that both help and hinder your laptop’s juicebox.
Getting More Minutes per Charge
You can fiddle with background processes and other software settings all you want, but your hardware is the biggest factor in laptop battery life, according to PC Mag’s lead analyst for laptops, Cisco Cheng. In fact, software such as power-management utilities can help minimize the impact internal components have on battery longevity. Knowing this can affect your buying decision if you’re looking for a new laptop (see the “Picking a Laptop for Maximum Battery Life” section below) or help you get the most out of the trusty laptop you’ve got. Here are a few ways to optimize hardware for maximum battery output.

Turn off ports. Disabling unused ports and components, such as VGA, Ethernet, PCMCIA, USB, and yes, your wireless, too. You can do this through the Device Manager or by configuring a separate hardware profile (see next step).
Create Power-Saving Hardware Profiles. Configure your laptop for the various scenarios in which you use it (on a plane, at the coffee shop, at the office, and so on). You can do this through the Hardware Profiles menu by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Preferences or by using a freeware utility such as SparkleXP (for Windows XP users).
Configure your display to turn off when not in use. This is different from just using a screensaver, because in many cases a screensaver still requires the display’s backlight to be on. You can set the interval to turn the display off in Windows’ Power Options—found in the Control Panel.

Extending the Overall Life
The easiest way to give your battery an early death is to damage it. And the two most common causes of damage are from overheating and using an AC adapter with the wrong voltage. For that, make sure to check the voltage of your adapter, especially if using a replacement adapter. Here’s how you prevent overheating:

Use a cooling pad when using a notebook computer on your lap.
Avoid propping your laptop on a pillow, blanket, or other soft surface that can heat up or block cooling fans.
Clean your desk. It sounds strange, but if you have a dusty, dirty desk, that dust will get into the vents and clog the cooling fan. Once the dust is inside your laptop, it is much harder to remove. You can try blasting it out with canned air, but you run the risk of damaging internal components. You can also remove the vent and clean out the grit, but remember that taking apart your laptop can void the warranty. So clean your desk at least once a week, if not daily.
Try not to store your laptop in a place where the air temperature exceeds 80 degrees Fahrenheit, such as a hot car or an outdoor patio. And if your laptop heats up or is cold, let it return to room temperature before starting up.
Consider taking your battery out when using your laptop plugged into AC power. Just make sure to keep the contacts clean. If you need to clean them, use rubbing alcohol.
For lithium ion batteries, you do not need to discharge them fully and recharge constantly. Since they don’t have the same “memory” as older nickel-metal hydride batteries, it is actually better to discharge a lithium ion only partially before recharging. You need to do a full discharge only about every 30 charges.

Picking a Laptop for Maximum laptop Battery Life
If you’re in the market for a new laptop, there are features and components you should consider to get the most mileage from the system’s battery.

An ultra-low-voltage processor, such as the Intel Penryn or one from VIA’s line of ULV processors.
A solid-state storage drive, which requires less power and, since there are no spinning parts, will suffer less wear and tear than a traditional hard drive.
An LED display. Although pricey, LEDs use much less power than LCD.
A smaller screen. A smaller screen means a smaller backlight, which will also save on battery drain.

According to Andrew Bradner, product line manager for APC, all lithium ion batteries are not created equal. The proof is in the pudding, or in this case the chemistry. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to discern if the battery you’re buying was manufactured in a top-notch facility using high-quality materials. And making that call is not as easy as assuming your laptop manufacturer’s battery will be of better quality than a battery from a third-party vendor. But you can stick to a couple of key guidelines.

Don’t skimp on your battery. If you choose the lowest-cost battery you’ll probably get a battery that degrades quickly, and you’ll end up buying a replacement too soon anyway. So spend the money now to save expense and frustration down the road.
Don’t buy an expired battery. A good indicator of a battery’s performance is how far into its product life it is, whether it’s used or new. If possible, look at the bottom of the battery and find the manufacture date.

How to Extend Your Laptop Battery Power Life

How to Extend Your Laptop Battery Power Life

Laptops are everywhere in the market today.

In offices
In homes
I even carry my laptop in my car

And I’m typing on a laptop right this very minute. A battery is a common accessory of a laptop and as such people want to know ways of extending their laptop battery power. Here are some ideas for extending battery life for your laptop notebook.

*** Use It Up ***

Wait, I thought this article was about extending the laptop battery life not using it up?

It is.

There is some debate about how this works with modern batteries, but the jest is when you use your battery power use it all before plugging in for a recharge. When recharging, make it a complete recharge for optimum results with your laptop battery.

It may sound strange, but laptop batteries have memories. If they are taught to only charge to a certain level then they don’t end up providing full charges when they are called for.

*** Hot Tip ***

To help your laptop better remember whose boss and provide you with full charge cycles here is something you can try. First, give your battery a full charge then let the juice run completely out. If you do this a series of time (recommended 3) you provide your battery with the best chance of acting like new. No guarantees here, just an idea to try for extending your laptop battery life.

*** Plug It In ***

You’ve heard the phrase, use it or lose it?

It doesn’t apply here.

Instead, for best performance from your laptop notebook batteries do not use it unless you need it. That way it will be available for you when you need it. Also, when on battery power lower the screen brightness to increase the amount of performance you receive from your laptop battery. Another recommendation is to set your computer to automatically sleep or hibernate when not in use for 5 or 10 minutes.

*** Cool It ***

Laptops can run very hot sometimes. Putting a hot laptop in a hot environment doesn’t do anything for the longevity of the device involved. However, environmental conditions are not always controllable, especially on hot summer days. Therefore, buy a fan tray for your computer to rest on instead of forcing it to perform beyond its capabilities.

You’ll be glad you did.

Your laptop battery will thank you.
Your laptop itself will thank you.
And your legs will thank you for not putting that hot puppy on them for cooling.

*** Concluding Thoughts ***

I do believe that laptops are here to stay for quite some time. Fact is, I really can’t imagine life without a laptop being available. As such there are key things you can do for the best financial success with your laptop device.

Use your laptop battery fully
Use your laptop battery only when necessary
Keep your laptop away from hot environments

External Laptop Battery – Extend Your Laptop Sessions

External Laptop Battery – Extend Your Laptop Sessions

If you own a laptop you know how long the normal battery lasts before you have to plug it in for a charge. It doesn’t really last for more than 2 hours. And it’s really frustrating if you are working on your laptop and you get a low battery pop-up.

If you are at home, then you can just get off your seat and plug in the charger. But what if you are working outdoors, say while traveling? The most you can work on a fully charged laptop is probably a couple of hours. After that you would need to look for an electric supply to charge your laptop battery. But this is not always possible.

An external laptop battery is the solution to your problem. This battery works for 7 hours with a single recharge and if you need more time after that you can recharge it with an external charger. You can choose from Lithium ion, Nickel metal hydride or nickel Cadmium.

Laptops, like we all know, are much convenient than personal computers. And the biggest advantage of laptops is the mobility factor. But what’s the point if the laptop needs to be plugged in every 2 hours to recharge its regular battery? Therefore, people who use their laptop outdoors and need to work for long hours without interruptions should invest in an external laptop battery.

External li ion laptop batteries are not very expensive. You can get them for around 0-0 depending on the brand and battery-life. They are easily available at gadget stores and you can shop online for cheaper deals. Make sure you get a good quality external laptop battery so that you can have maximum benefit.

The prices of electronic gadgets are dropping and so is the price of laptops. Hence more and more people prefer buying a laptop instead of desktops. They require minimum space and also convenient to carry around wherever you go. If you are a frequent traveler and work while traveling then you would require an extended power source for your laptop as the 2 hour life of most laptop batteries is definitely not enough.

An external laptop batteries is compact and connects to the laptop with an AC adapter. Most of these batteries have two output levels. They come with an adapter, a chord and thirteen other connectors. The best part of these external batteries is that they can connect to any make or laptop model. So you can buy these batteries from any company and connect to any laptop.

External batteries for laptops are one of the best inventions ideal for this hi-tech world. People who need more mobility and extended power source to run their laptops can purchase these external batteries and use them for as long as they want without any interruptions.

How to extend laptop battery life?

0

How to extend laptop battery life?

Since the birth of notebook computer, the argument about  batteries have came along. Since the persistent of using notebook computer is one of the most important technical indicators, and the capacity of the battery is the decisive index to that.Exactly how to use the laptop battery appropriately that maximise the efficacy of battery and extend laptop battery life? Below, I will list some knowledge about battery for you which many people often misunderstand (without special explanation, I am talking about lithium ion battery which is most common used).

First, when using a new laptop battery, the first three time it needs to be charge for 12 hours?
This is totally unnecessary. Because current laptop computers contain perfect power management circuits and charging management systems. When the battery reach saturation point, the control circuit will turn to break status  automatically. So the battery only needs to be fully charged, but does not mean that the longer you charge the longer you can use it.

Second, in order to prevent memory effect, we should run out of the power before recharge the batteries?
It is not necessary to discharge the battery before recharge each time, and it is also harmful. As proved: completely discharge the battery will shorten the battery life meaninglessly, it is recommended that you should recharge the battery when it has been used at about 10% level. Of course, when the battery power are more than 30% it is best not to be charged, because the memory effect does exist.

Third, consider removing the battery from a laptop when running on fixed power,in order to prevent repeatedly charging and discharging.
My advice is: That is definitely not required.Of course, you can take the natural discharge of lithium-ion batteries to refute me, holding the view that if there is fixed power plug in after the natural discharge of the battery, repeated charging and discharging will occur, and this will reduce the battery life. Instead, I give you the “not required” answer for several reasons:
1. Nowadays all notebook computers’ power control circuits are designed to have this feature: The battery will not be charged until at 90% level(such as HP’s most models), or 95%, but to achieve this through natural discharge takes about 2 weeks to a month, when the battery is idle for a month or so it needs to fully charge and discharge to maintain the battery’s capacity, at this time what you should be concerned about is give the battery a little bit of exercise instead of recharging after idle. By doing this will extend your laptop battery life.

2. Even if the battery is “unfortunately” charged again, the capacity loss it cause is not much greater than not use the battery for a long time.

3. Your data sometimes is much more valuable than you battery, even your notebook computer, a sudden power failure not only hurt your notebook, but also hurt your heart for not restoring the data, even harder if the data is very important.

Fourth, does the battery need to be fully charged before long-term storage?

It will be clear after reading the following table: (the percentage stand for  the relative percentage of the saturated state at the time to the initial value)

Storage Temperature | 40% Charging state | 100% charging state

0 degree | 98% (one year later) | 94% (one year later)

25 degree | 96% (one year later) | 80% (one year later)

40 degree | 85% (one year later) | 65% (one year later)

60 degree | 75% (one year later) | 60% (3 months later)

Obviously, if you are to store the battery for a long time, it is better to put it in dry and cold environment and let the battery decharge at 40% level. Of course, it is the best to take the battery out for use every month, it not only can guarantee the good preservation state of  the battery, but also prevent the battery from the damage caused by a completely drain of the power .

Fifth, so how to prolong the utility time of notebook as much as possible when running on battery and extend laptop battery life?

1. Turn down the screen brightness. The LCD is power-hungry, turn down screen brightness can extend the usage time of laptop computer.

2. Open SpeedStep, PowerPlay and other power-saving functions. Now the notebook processors and graphics chips have lower operating frequency and voltage functions to extend the usage time of the laptop, turn on the corresponding options can greatly extend the battery’s utility time.

3. Use the hard disk and CD-ROM reduce-speed software: such as NERO DriveSpeed, PowerBooster and other software can reduce the speed of CD-ROM and hard drive, etc., also can reduce the notebook’s power consumption.

If you follow the advice above, I am sure your laptop battery’s life will extend much longer. An ad here, if your laptop batteries have been dead unfortunately,  you should buy a new replacement one. Here is a good online laptop battery shop for you:
