YAGANGAT SCHOOL JOINED THE REST OF WORLD IN OBSERVING THE CANDLE LIGHT
VIGIL FOR SURVIVAL EVENT, TO SPREAD MOST IMPORTANT NUMBER IN THE WORLD*

Karachi: December 12th at 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.—People from around Saifal
marry Goth, Nasrat Nagar, Zia Colony, Riti line, Ayub Goth Areas of St.
Jude’s, St. Anthony, St. James, and St. Philips’s Parishes and School
Children of Tatargo Yagagat school Karachi gathered to joins global candle
light vigil for survival on the occasion of the Copenhagen Climate Summit
held on 11-13 December, 2009. The awareness seminar with communities, school
Children and Candle Light Vigil and walk was organized, under the Livelihood
Program of Caritas Pakistan Karachi as part of the solidarity with the world
on climate change activism ever. 50 Children and 70 Community members and
development workers, both Christian and Muslims joined more than 5,000
communities in “200” countries as part of a global day of action coordinated
by 350.org to urge world leaders to take bold and immediate steps to address
climate change and reduce carbon emissions. The developing nations demanded
deeper emissions cuts from rich nations particularly the United States,
because he shares 16.33% of top greenhouse gases emissions worldwide to
pollute the atmosphere.

Mansha Noor Livelihood program coordinator, in his speech said that its goal
is nothing less than taming greenhouse gases- the invisible byproduct,
derived mainly from the burning of coal, oil and gas, that traps the Sun’s
heat and warms Earth’s atmosphere. He said that scientists say that without
dramatic action within the next decade, Earth will be on course for warming
that will inflict drought, flood, storms and rising sea levels, translating
into hunger, homelessness and misery for many millions. But scaling back
carbon emissions has become a fierce political issue, pitching rich
countries against poor countries, and opening up divisions with each of
blocs. He concluded his speech on an upbeat note, saying that little things
can make a big difference, in how we do thing in our daily lives that can
help a lot. For example, grow more pants around our house, streets,
churches, and mosques to keep it naturally insulated against hot and cold
weather. Put the iron off 15 seconds before finishing ironing. The iron will
remain warm and you can finish ironing clothes, this way you will use less
electricity. Turn off all remote controlled devices before sleeping. The
tiny light that lights also uses energy, which is being wasted while you
sleep. Turn off the stove when the food has been heated as some people just
leave the fire burning even after food has cooked or heated. When buying
electrical items like computer, DVDs, look for an energy saving star label.
Energy saving lights bulbs is good as they give a lot of light and use a
minimum amount of electricity. Use rechargeable batteries instead of
throwing out batteries, which increases waste and the disposal of which also
releases dangerous gases into air. At the end of the awareness seminar the
participants were gathered at the ground of the Tatarko Yagangat School, for
candles lights vigil for survival event at 6:00 p.m. the participants then
made the 350 number. All the participants of the vigil were holding
illuminated candles in their hands as a symbol of bringing light and to high
light the number of 350 and to show solidarity worldwide and demand and
urges the world community to act before it is too late, this is the only
planet that we have to live, so poor countries demands to rich countries to
cut emissions of greenhouse gases and switching your economies from fossil
fuels to cleaner energy.

After that the participants of candles light vigil started a survival walk
from the school ground to the session hall. The vigil ended by a collected
prayer for survival of our planet from the effect of the greenhouse gases
and to get down the levels of the carbon from our atmosphere and safe our
plant from both human and natural disaster before the problems gets worse.

At the end coordinator thanked community members and schoolchildren for
their participations and cooperation in the Candle light vigil for survival.
He also praised animators Javed Iqbal, Nafeesa Wilson, Rustam Bhatti and
Samina Maqool for their hard work and successful handling of candle light
vigil for survival event.
