This young woman strode into the middle of Verdi Square, stood silently for a moment while she surveyed the scene around her, and then walked over to a newspaper/candy stand near the subway entrance, while staring intensely at her cell phone…

Note: this photo was picked up by Flickr’s Explore list as #349 on their list for Oct 1, 2008 — but then it was dropped. Boo hoo.
Note: on Aug 10, 2009, I made minor editing improvements to this photo. I removed some overly dark "cold spots" in the background, and lightened the shadows on the woman’s pants, so you could see them more clearly.

This is part of an evolving photo-project, which will probably continue throughout the summer of 2008, and perhaps beyond: a random collection of "interesting" people in a broad stretch of the Upper West Side of Manhattan — between 72nd Street and 104th Street, especially along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.
I don’t like to intrude on people’s privacy, so I normally use a telephoto lens in order to photograph them while they’re still 50-100 feet away from me; but that means I have to continue focusing my attention on the people and activities half a block away, rather than on what’s right in front of me.
I’ve also learned that, in many cases, the opportunities for an interesting picture are very fleeting — literally a matter of a couple of seconds, before the person(s) in question move on, turn away, or stop doing whatever was interesting. So I’ve learned to keep the camera switched on (which contradicts my traditional urge to conserve battery power), and not worry so much about zooming in for a perfectly-framed picture … after all, once the digital image is uploaded to my computer, it’s pretty trivial to crop out the parts unrelated to the main subject.
For the most part, I’ve deliberately avoided photographing bums, drunks, drunks, and crazy people. There are a few of them around, and they would certainly create some dramatic pictures; but they generally don’t want to be photographed, and I don’t want to feel like I’m taking advantage of them. I’m still looking for opportunities to take some "sympathetic" pictures of such people, which might inspire others to reach out and help them. We’ll see how it goes …
The only other thing I’ve noticed, thus far, is that while there are lots of interesting people to photograph, there are far, far, *far* more people who are *not* so interesting. They’re probably fine people, and they might even be more interesting than the ones I’ve photographed … but there was just nothing memorable about them.

MacBook battery not charging problem fix does not work.
22
I have a macbook that shows the battery symbol with an x in it. It says no batteries available, and at one point it said batteries not charging. As you can see I go through the steps Apple provides to fix this issue, and it does not work. I also show that I have bought a replacement battery and the original. I tried these steps with both batteries multiple times. They both are fully charged although the macbook does not recognize it. My connectors are all in good condition. Also, iTunes automatically opens now since this started happening. Is this a desperate, and/or corrupt attempt to have consumers buy AppleCare, and purchase music? Why else would the steps they provide to help fix the problem not fix the problem? Anyway, I’m rambling now, but I am extremely pissed. I can’t even enjoy my computer anymore as a laptop.

The Dell laptop battery receives its charge through the adapter, a portable power supply that connects to an electrical outlet. If the battery is defective, however, it will fail to charge, and the Dell notebook won’t power on without the power adapter plugged in. If the battery isn’t working, perform a few troubleshooting steps to attempt to fix whatever is preventing the device from charging. Doing something as simple as cleaning the device with a dry cloth can fix the battery.Instructions
1. Turn off the notebook. Disconnect the power adapter. Close the lid and turn the notebook over on to its face.
2. Slide the battery release tab to eject the battery. Put on an antistatic wrist strap to protect the battery from electrostatic damage.
3. Pull the battery out of the Dell. Wipe the battery and the contacts on the inside of the battery compartment with a dry, antistatic cloth.
Dell latitude D620 Battery – Li-ion, 6600 mAh, 11.1 Vonly US $ 75.98
4. Return the battery to its compartment. You should hear a “click” when you push the battery down into the bay.
5. Connect the laptop AC adapter to the notebook. Confirm the connection between the AC adapter and the power cable are secure.
6. Insert the AC adapter cable into the power jack on the side of the Dell computer. Insert the power cable into a wall outlet. Plug an electrical device into the outlet beforehand to confirm that the outlet is transmitting power.
Toshiba Pa3285u-3bas Laptop Battery – http://www.batterylaptoppower.com/toshiba/pa3285u-3bas.htmLi-ion, 4400 mAh, 10.8 Vonly US $ 61.96
7. Check the indicator light on the front of the computer. If the power light is solid or blinking, the battery is charging.
8. Connect an alternate, compatible AC adapter to the computer if the power light fails to come on. Contact Dell for a replacement laptop battery if the battery fails to charge even after connecting another AC adapter.

How to Choose a Spare Laptop Battery:
When buying a laptop battery pack, you will probably only have one or two choices that fit your computer. Choose the HP elitebook 8530w laptop battery with the longest life available for your computer. There are several different kinds of discount laptop batteries; because the technologies of each are very different, a laptop must be designed specifically for the type of Asus a32-f9 laptop battery it uses. Most laptops are only designed to use one type of battery technology.
